I'm considering buying a bread machine that mixes the dough and bakes it, but there is a wide variety of machines as well as huge differences in prices for them. Can anyone tell me if they have used a bread machine and recommend a good one?

Thanks in advance.

So What Happened?

I was given a bread machine by a friend, and have since made about 3 loaves. It's an old machine (about 10 years old) but works great. It seems like a lot of people have these machines and don't use them, so they may also be available at garage sales.

My bread machine is a Nutrionist. I got it for a wedding gift 7 years ago. I'm sure there are better ones out now, but I have always been happy with mine. Amazon usually has good reviews maybe try there too.

I love the smell of bread baking---it brings back memories of flying down the freeway and smelling the bread at Mrs.Bairds! I have an Oster and I believe my daughter got it at Dillards.I got it for Christmas years ago,it came with a small cookbook inside.

I had an Oster for 3-4 years before it fell apart. I spent a little more for my Breadman, and it's been quite the workhorse for the 2 1/2 years I've had it. We use it for pizza dough and bread, but I never, never bake the bread in the machine. I prefer the beauty of oven-baked loaf. :)

I bought the one at WalMart for less than $50..Works great far as I can tell..inexpensive enough and good enough to be a great machine to test out whether or not you are gonna really use a bread machine enough to warrant paying a super duper high price....can't imagine what a higher priced machine would offer that this one does not???... ; )

be sure to put some butter or oil onto the stem and up inside the kneading tool for easier removal.....gets much easier the more you use it....

I have made several kinds of breads with the booklet recipes and also used the machine to knead the dough (dough cycle) for some of my personal bread /hot roll recipes...if the machine's kneading time is too long, then just unplug the machine or hold the start button til it turns 'off'....then remove the dough and shape into loaves or rolls and bake in your oven....

i have not tried the cake recipes....

note: But take my advice and do not try to cook or make the peach jam recipe in the booklet!...spatters all over the machine and makes a terrible mess... use the jam recipe in a deep pot on top of your stove and maybe even cover with a lid.

We have a Breadman and absolutely love it. I have no idea what it cost or where it came from though.....my husband already owned it when we got married in 2005.

My first one was an off brand and when it came time to replace this little clug in it my husband had to make the part. None of them bake the bread good. It is better to take it out on the last cycle and put it in bread pans let it rise and then bake it yourself. I had a hard time finding any and just got a Wal Mart one for about $40 G. W
