Braxton Hicks or the Real Thing... - Eau Claire,WI

So I am 35 weeks pregnant with my 4th child. As unusual as it may be I cannot tell whether I've been having contractions or not. My last 2 children were 4 & 3 weeks early & I didn't realize I was in labor with either of them until I was 5 cm. For some reason my contractions aren't strong enough to feel and I had to be put on meds to continue my labor with all my kids. I'm nervous its too early for our lil guy to come & I'm not quite ready ... has anyone else had the same issue? I see my ob today so I'll know for sure this afternoon, but I'm still quite nervous.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sorry I didn't update sooner but things get busy here on the homefront... I had my doctors appt and even though I'm only 35 weeks I had my Dr check me. I am already 3 cm dilated but was only half way effaced. I have still been having irregular contractions and I go back on Tuesday to see my Dr. I have also noticed some discharge (sorry about tmi) which is thought to be some of my mucus plug... I know its still early, but I cant wait for our newest lil guy to come!!

Yes...same issue. I went into the hospital to preregister at 36 weeks with my daughter. I got there and said something along the lines of, "I've been having a lot of braxton hicks contractions all morning...no pattern...completely stopped prior to heading to the hospital...but because I'm neurotic and this is our first, can I be checked since I'm not 37 weeks yet?" Anyway...I was at a 6. I've given up listening to anybody trying to explain to me how to differentiate between braxton hicks and 'the real thing' because it just isn't the same for me (I always knew I was wierd!!). It was the hardest with my 2nd because we lived an hour away from the hospital...stress! I'm curious as to how everything went! Let us know in your SWH!

Just remember that for your contractions to be "real" contractions, they have to start forming a pattern (every 4 mins for a while then every 3 mins then every 2 mins ect...) getting closer together, they don't necessarily have to hurt or take your breath away, mine never did, and they can still be very productive. So I would start logging them, and if they are about every 6 mins and you've layed down to rest, or taken a shower and still they're not going away, then I would head to L&D or call your doc.

Well I am also 35 weeks with my 3rd child, I have been having braxtn hicks for about 3 weeks now. I am so ready to have this baby, she can come right now as i type, this has been the most painful and worst pregnancy Ive had. They said my 2nd was 2 1/2 weeks early, but she weighed more then my oldest, so I think they were a little off. Like I think They are a little off on this one, I have dropped, and They havent even done a pelvic or a sono since Dec. so they cant even tell me how much my baby weighs, but my cm. of my stomach is more than 35. But if you know that you are known for having them a little early, and you have never had BH before, and they are less then 10 minutes apart, you might want to think its time..... Im so jealous...

I also didn't feel my real contractions until my water breaks. I also don't have very many Braxton Hicks, not to the point where I can notice them very much, (I'm 9 months pregnant with my 3rd). But what I do know, is that if they do come and are fairly regular, drink some water, take a shower, eat a snack, lay down and change positions. If they don't go away, than it's the real thing.
