I love Chateau and highly recommend it for families! (I actually got married there about 10 years ago). we stay there one or two nights every summer and meet family out on the lake.
It is so fun, has a great play pool, tennis courts, near the dam, fish hatchery and the nature center trails little ice cream parlor, etc.
I grew up in B-town and I am not familiar with Deer Run, but sounds like a winner, too, if you don't want to go out into the city, but just want to stick to lake, SDC and white water water park isn't too far from their either.
They also have a TON of timeshare/condos available my SIL works at Stormy Point as an activities director and they have daily crafts and activities for families as well as a great pool.
Have fun!!

Addition: Saw Gina M. response. The name of the place with the water park in it is "Grand County Inn" or "Splash Country" They just started a FB page with daily deals, so if you are interested, follow them and save some $$:)

We went this past September and stayed at Table Rock Lake, it too is right next to SDC. Remember that SDC is all on hills, so wear good shoes and be prepared to walk ALOT! Water parks and mini golf was fun for our son. Can't remember the name but there was a motel deep in the city that had an indoor water park and video arcade and had a pizza place connected to it, it was across the street from the "ride the ducks", sorry I can't remember the name but it is popular so little research and you'll find it. Ride the ducks was fun and the Hamner Barber variety show was too. Titanic was cool but not too kid friendly so if you have adult time it would be an experience. Check hotel lobbies and visitor centers for coupons, they were very helpful. If your driving through Arkansas to get to Branson be prepared because the mountains made my son and I a little queasy and felt like we were going to throw up they are winding and narrow and straight uphill. You can go through Oklahoma all the way and then go east into Missouri but they scenery isn't much to look at. Have fun and enjoy your vacation.

we go several times each year. We use:

Carriage House, Spinning Wheel, Stone Castle, & 12 Oaks. We also use Deer Run which is right next to Silver Dollar City....if we're not planning on "doing" Branson. (we have season passes to Silver$City & sometimes do just the park.)

Castle Rock is a waterpark hotel, Chateau on the Lake is upscale, & Big Cedar is Bass Pro's hotel. My son has also used the Hilton on the Landing & liked it.

Have fun! It's our fav go-to vacation destination!

I second the Deer Run... it's right next to Silver Dollar City, HUGE room, inexpensive and ours had a kitchenette for less than $100/night (I think it was either $79 or $89 last summer).
We had 3 adults (hubby, my grandma, & me) and my then 5yo and 7mo. We had the playpen set up, all the junk that comes with the kiddos, our luggage (my grandma does not pack light!) and still lots of room to move around. Loved it!
It's not one of the fancy new hotels in town, but it is really clean, well-kept and the staff was WONDERFUL! Very helpful on guiding us to things for the kids, got extra towels when needed, told us where things were in town and made honest recommendations about whether something in town was worth the $$.
The only downside was that it was up on the mountain, so whenever we'd go down into town & come back up, the little one would WAIL because he refused to suck on his bottle or binky and the change in air pressure would make his ears pop.

when we went we stayed at Stillwaters Resort. My sister went a few years after us, and they had build another pool that was really cool and had many more amenities. It was not expensive but the room was small. However we did not mind a bit, and I'd go there again if we go to Branson again. Their website is stillwatersresort.com It is also right next to Silver Dollar City
