Hi All-

I am pregnant with my 3rd baby and I am looking for bottles to buy. I am planning on breastfeeding mostly but am hoping the baby will take a bottle as well. My first child went back and forth between bottle and breast no problem, my second wanted nothing to do with bottles. And bottles have changed a lot since I used them. So I am looking for a good BPA free bottle that you have found that your baby will go back and forth between breast and bottle no problem, one that doesn't leak, etc. Thank you!

Initially I used the 4 ounce glass bottles by Even Flo.. but I found that the baby had too much gas. My mother in law suggested that I try the Playtex Drop In system because the liner collapses as the baby drinks the formula so there is less/no air in the bottle...the bottles are plastic but the liners are BPA free..Playtex has BPA free bottles.. I've also heard that Dr. Brown bottles are very good. Vent Advanced Aire system is similar with the bent bottle.

We have used the Playtex Drop Ins and did not have any problems... I think we've had maybe one leak.. very satisfied with this product! You can get the liners at Target or CVS. Hope this helps!

For us - Playtex drop ins were the best. No scrubbing bottle as you use liners that drop into a bottle frame. Just before we gave the bottle we always pushed the air out from the bottom up and my son rarely if ever spit up. I breastfeed but always gave one 4 ounce bottle at night before bed. Just to give me a little break between all day feedings and middle of the night wake ups.

Bottle frams, nipples and nipple rings went in the top rack of the dishwasher - easy! Playtex also now sells breast bump attachements so you can pump right into the liners.

These are the kind we used. They worked well for us, but in the end my daughter always prefered me to the bottle. The first years breastflow bottles.

My daughter was mostly breastfed, except when I worked part time on weekends, and we tried Nuk, Medella, and Evenflo bottles. I would have to say that Nuk is very good at first, then Evenflo. Medella was definitely not as good as it was supposed to be.

Hi there A.,

Congratulations! I work with new parents and infants all the time and what see is what you've already seen in your first two babies; each has their own tendancies and personal preferences! You may just want to wait and see what tendancies your new little one displays. If you have bottles in your cupboard you might consider just buying new nipples and trying to see how this will go over before going out and buying new bottles. Avent has a PBA free bottle that is popular among parents I work with. If you are going to be pumping you might consider just using the bottles that fit your pump kit. You may already know this trick but when introducing a bottle to a newborn often times success comes easier to those other than the lactating mother presenting the bottle. I would be happy to chat more if you would like.

Best,

A.

I breastfed both children, and gave them expressed milk and some formula in a bottle for daycare and for my husband to feed them. For my son (prior to the BPA awareness), we tried playtex (although I was not keen on the disposable bags, it seemed like it might be a good option because the breast milk could be frozen in the same bag). Those were OK, but the covers did not work very well traveling. Then we switched to Avent, which we liked a great deal. For my daughter, we went straight to the Avent BPA-free bottles based on our earlier experience, but unlike the previous bottles, these are VERY temperamental and will often leak like crazy! I would not recommend those based on our experience.

You should try Adiri bottles. They're pricey, yeah, but when I got mine and opened the package, I said, "They're basically one big boob!" Seriously, that's what they look like, a breast. My daughter had no problems going back and forth, and they don't leak. I know you can find them on amazon, and I'm sure other places. Good luck, and I highly recommend them!

I didn't introduce bottles until about 2-2.5 weeks into breastfeeding - and my son can go back and forth between breast and bottle no problem. His first bottle was the Evenflo Comfi. I really like these bottles! They are inexpensive (Wal-Mart sells them), have a little hand grip on the side (great when your child starts to try to hold the bottle himself) and have a nice contour that makes feeding in the nursing position easy. The other great feature is that it doesn't just have 2 stages of nipples, but rather 3 - slow, medium and fast flow. We've been using them for 6 months and have had no problems with leaking or the side-measurments wearing off (although I have never put them in a dishwasher).

Since I received free medela bottles with my hospital stay - I use these as well - the Evenflo Comfi nipple and lid fit right over them. These bottles will also work with Medela pumps; however, they don't fit as securely as the Medela bottles, but I've never had a problem using this method.

I breastfed for the first 6 months and my daughter prefered the medela bottles and nipples. Another bottle that in an emergency I found she liked was the 4 packs they sell at walgreens (sorry I forgot the name) they are BPA free and come in bright colors w/ caps; ran about $5 for 4 bottles.

I found that I like Evenflo Breastflow because it simulates the breast by actually forcing baby to suck and cause a letdown, and the nipple is like a real breast. I chose these because I did not want to risk confusing the baby (I only breastfeed) for the times I needed to bottlefeed. This is just if I step out to the store, am on sinus meds, and for the first week or two I had MAJOR soreness and could not nurse full-time.

The Evenflo bottles are not leakproof but that was the least of my worries. They only seemed to leak when shaking formula. They are BPA free. The ounces mark will rub off right away, so that was annoying, but still they've been good bottles for us. The Adiri bottles (I think that is what they are called)? are also shaped like breasts but they were very awkward for the baby and I stopped using them almost right away.

My other two kids are 3 and 2. The first child had BPA in his Avent bottles. :( The second went right from breast to sippy cup. I did try to new Avent bottles and they leaked. Bornfree (we used these for first child once we knew about BPA) were OK, but costly and had too many parts.). Nuby didn't give enough liquid through the nipple; baby cried.

Hope that helps! We've been through lots of bottles. :)

Mine liked Mam after 8-9 different brands I've tried. I think it will all depend on a baby.
I'm not sure if you'll be using pacifiers but it may be a good idea to use the same brand. That's how I discovered the bottle brand my daughter accepts, sort of.

Congrats on your third baby! I just had my third a couple of months ago. All three of my kids switched easily between breast and bottle as long as we were giving bottles regularly, so I just wanted to mention that. Also, with my newest baby we introduced a bottle much sooner than we did before (in the first week home) because my other kids wanted to help feed the baby. It did not seem to introduce any confusion. My oldest son went on a permanent bottle strike only after I didn't give him a bottle for a little more than a week. So now I am careful to have someone give my baby a bottle at least twice a week, even if there's no real need because I am here.

I don't really have a reccommendation for a bottle. We've used all kinds with no problems.

Hi A.,
I really like the "Born Free" bottles. You can get them at Babys R Us, online or at Whole Foods Market. They are BPA free, don't leak and worked really well for me and my son when I was doing both the breast/bottle.
Hope that helps - good luck!

I use the Platex Ventaire Advanced. My baby was able to go back and forth between the bottle and breast fine. We just got the wide nipple ones.
