Bottle Warming or Breast Milk Thawing

I wanted to share with you all an IDEA that was shared with me by a child care center infant room worker. I do childcare and was expressing my frustration with how much water I feel I waste thawing breast milk in hot tap water 3 - 5 times a day. She told me in her infant room they keep small crock pots of water plugged in each day so that they always have hot water to warm bottles. NOW WHY DIDN'T I EVER THINK OF THAT!!!!

What can I do next?

Huh! What a great idea. I was just thinking of how I didn't like wasting the water as well. Now I know what I can do. Thanks for sharing!

That's a great idea! They've got those little crock pots that would work perfectly. Thanks for sharing.

To add to that, my kids LOVED cold bottles. I would make a batch of bottles in the morning, keep them there until I needed them, if we went out I used that cooler bag with the ice pack the hospital provides and I would just give them the cold bottles on the run. There is nothing to harm them, still as full of nutrition and in times they had a cold it was very soothing to their throat. At night I would pack a bag and take it upstairs and put by their crib so I didn't have to run downstairs a couple of times. Both of them from 3 mos went with cold bottles right out of the fridge or cooler and loved it! It helps with the transition to cold milk too after the year mark as they aren't so programmed to have it heated or warm. Helped getting them used to drinking water too.

How is daycare going for you? I just decided not to renew my license because we are expecting a baby this summer. Anyway, I have one little boy left, and he will be 2 in April. I am trying to find a great place (preferably child care home) for him to go for the summer. Would you have any openings in May until school starts? Or do you know of anyone who might? thanks!
