IF she is doing fine with the slow ones then fine, but you can try stage 2, my Daughter uses 2 and 1 but we use VentAire, had not a problem with either.....She uses a cup for Juice.

The only problem with the stage ones is that they are usually smaller because they are for a newborn. She may have an easier time at nursing with the larger nipple. But there are lots of brand of nipples that don't change by age. I used the playtex nursers with the drop in liner and they only came in one size so it's really only a preference.

I would say, if you aren't nursing at all, try the stage 2 and 3. I remember when I used to babysit my friend's son and he was almost 1 year old and still using stage one while my daughter was 4 months younger and on stage 2-3...it took him more than twice as long to drink a bottle! AND, many times, he wouldn't finish them and I think it was because he was worn out! Try it and if it doesn't work, you can always go back to stage 1.

I have an 8 1/2 month old and she now used the 4 ones. She never gets too much, drinks comfortably and stops when she is full. Even if your child prefers a slower flow, she should definitely be using 3 by now, otherwise there's a big chance she's not eating as much as she would because she gets tired from all the sucking.

If she seems to be eating well, switch gradually. Start using the #2, then after a week or so, start on #3 and see how she does. If it seems the switch was too quick, go back to #2 and wait one more week or two. But she will probably adjust pretty well and likely eat more formula and drink more water (I use 2 or 3 for water and herbal tea)

Hi there,
My cousin's daughter was on stage 1 nipples for almost a year and all my relatives would constantly remark how petite their daughter was. We all figured it was just genetic, then one day my cousin realized she was supposed to upgrade the nipples avery couple months and wow - my neice gained weight almost instantly! it obviously tires an infant out to suck constantly to gain nourishment, and so my neice wasn't getting the intake she should have been at her age. Now she's a more healthier weight, and off the bottle as she's almost 2 now. So try changing them and see, the flow increases a certain amount which your baby may appreciate. What's the hurt in trying? Good luck :)

i would switch to a stage 2 and she how she does with it. she'll be on milk soon and most likely drinking from a sippy cup too so you may not need to go any further than stage 2. I know at 1 yr my daughter took herself off the bottle went loved drinking from a cup like a big girl. i hope i helped

When I used Avent bottles with my first son, I always used stage 1. He didn't take very well to them so I switched to Playtex, yet I always used the slow nipple. I never used fast. I don't think it's necessary to switch to the fast nipples (or Stage 2 or even 3). If they are still in the package, I would return them. Good luck!!

I would do some reseach on Avent website and see what they reccomend for age groups and try to adjust it accorngly. They customize nipples to fit the average baby but of course not every baby is average. I use the Dr. Browns bottle and my daughter takes a stage 3 nipple with a touch of rice in her formula but then takes a stage 2 nipple with juice or pedialyte. From drinking out of the nipples in the hospital she got acustomed to the faster flow and wasnt geting enough out of the stage 1 newborns and she was a premie. She was getting too tired to quickly and was considered a failure to thrive baby. Once I switched she started guzzling it down and gain weight well. She is now almost 11lbs and gets very excited when she see her bottle. I would try to switch and see how she does. Try to sit her up higher in your arms until she get used to the flow and stop ever couple minutes for her to catch her breath if she seems like she is getting too much too fast. It may take her a few feedings to get used to it. If she is not adapting well and should be on the next level according to the manufacturer than I would talk about it with her dr. and see what suggestions they might have. Hope I have been of help and let us know how everything works out.

Are you nursing still?? I would say if you are nursing DO NOT change the nipple. If your baby get used to a faster flow, she may reject the breast. If you are no longer nursing you could try it. I found with my son, he ended up eating too much and spitting up more.
I think if Stage 1 if working for you, why change it?
