Bored with Bouncer

My 4 month old daughter is now getting bored or frustrated if she is not sitting up or propped up - she loves her Fisherprice Rainforest jumper, that allows her to jump up and down with lights and toy, but gets bored fast. We used to put her in her bouncer to watch her video, and hang some toys in front of her, she loved that, but now it is like "I want to sit up!!" We got the Bumbo, but she does not seem to like it much, any suggestions??

What can I do next?

My little guy gets bored with his bouncer too. He does however like his jumperoo. Fisher price rainforest. It is bright and it plays music.
He is a bit too small for it, but i fold a firm blanket under it so that his toes touch and he sits and literally jumps a bit!

The best thing for babies brain development is for them to move their own bodies. Rolling over, crossing their brain midline (by her reaching from far right to far left etc...) helps her Left & Right brain hemispheres "communicate" together. It promotes eye development. Crawling helps brain development and reading down the road. Occupational therapists caution against too much reliance on these baby gadgets that limit movement.

Why not just set her down on the floor and make her reach for her toys???

These DVDs are eye-opening. I wish everyone could see them. It really opened my eyes with my 2nd born.

Put her in a high chair! Move it up so she can watch you while you cook, etc. At this age my kids lived in the baby carrier, face-out. They loved being able to see everything I'm doing and I actually got a lot accomplished.

Our daughter loves her Baby Einstein Stationary Entertainer. It was a life saver when she got tired of her vibrating chair. Lots of entertainment and you can raise it as she grows. Our daughter is now 8 months and still likes to be in it and now pulls up on the outside of it too.

She might be too young, it depends on her ability, but what about getting her an excersaucer? They allow the child to sit up, turn around, and there are different toys all around (which are also replaceable to change when she gets bored), some play music, light up, etc.

I have a suggestion for you. I registered for this but I received the Bumbo instead. I still want it because I think my daughter will be bored in the bumbo as well.

If you have a Boppy pillow, you can sit her in the center of that on the floor. I did that with my youngest. He would stretch backward a lot so I had to keep sitting him up, but he liked it before he was able to sit up on his own. We also had a Little Einstein "gym" with a floor mat and toys hanging from bars overhead. He loved that, both on his back and on his tummy - the mat is very colorful and he liked looking at the characters.

We have an intellitainer from fisher price and both our babies loved it. We also have a jumperoo, but she may be getting bored with it cause she's still too young for it. They really dont get the full effect of it till they are able to really get going in it when they are older (Both my son and daughter did not fully enjoy the jumperoo till 6-12 months), so maybe put the jumper away for a couple months and try something like the intellitainer or an exersaucer. Also try putting her up where she can see the world. My baby was the same way and from just a few weeks old he was already getting irritated with laying back and wanted to be sitting up. So I'd put him in the bumbo up on the table when we were eating and on the counter when I was doing dishes and stuff. There is just too much to see in the world and it's not fun watching from a layed back position. :) Our kids are ready to face the world head on. Good luck.

When my son was born, friends and family got me everything under the son and as he got older he got a Jumperoo, which his Doc said he was not ready for. But, my Mom got his the Baby Einstein Exersaucer and he lived in that thing while I was doing laundry or vacuuming. It was perfect for him and he loved sitting up and playing with the toys that he could reach and as he got bigger conquering the one's he couldn't reach before. Actually, I think it helped him learn to sit up. But, there is nothing like tummy time to get your little one stimulated! I got the First Years tummy time mat and it had all kinds of gadgets and we'd hang out and play on our backs and tummies. Or there's the Baby Einstein one too, that has a kind of canopy over it with toys that squeak and move with music and lights.

However, when I was cooking dinner or doing dishes we'd rotate from sitting in the High Chair, Bouncy Chair or Carrier so, he could see what Mommy was 'doing' and be a part of the action. Now, at age 2 he is the biggest help in the kitchen and even cleans up after himself when he makes a mess!

It's great bonding time and really gets your little one involved in your day!
