I loved my boppy and my husband still uses it when he rocks my 2 year old daughter. You can use it for tummy time and to sit up also. It was a big relief on my arms and belly after a c-section!
When I had my daughter (now 4) I don't know that the Boppys were out (or maybe I just didn't see them). I now have a friend having a second child VERY soon and we were talking about the Boppy Pillow, and neither of us knew much about them (she'd never seen them before, and her daughter is the same age as mine). So, My question is this: Is the Boppy Pillow worth the almost $40 price tag since the mom IS NOT breastfeeding? This will help my friend for now, and me in the future. Thanks for your responses in advance!
Thank you everyone for your responses. It seems that the general thoughts are that Boppys are good for much more than just breastfeeding; thanks for taking time to respond! I'm going to look into buying one now. Thank You!

In the first three months of my son's life, we used the bobby pillow all the time. I did breastfeed, but we used it in several other ways. The Bobby pillow is great for people who want to hold the baby but are nervous around babies. We used the bobby pillow to prop him when sitting on the couch or floor. Also, we used the pillow for tummy time. I hope that this helps!!
Boppy's ROCK! I did breastfeed and they were helpful, but my kids are now 3 and 4 and still use them in the playroom when they watch a movie/TV. Plus they like when I tell the stories of how they've had them since they were tiny babies. My daughter uses hers for her dolls and animals.
I would say not worth it if you are not breastfeeding. We used ours about two times with each kid for purposes other than breastfeeding. It can help them sit up when they are not able to fully do that on their own, but that stage is very short-lived.
I had one and really liked it for breast feeding, but for bottle feeding I don't think it would be very useful...
Pretty good for propping up a nearly sitting 5 month old though!
I loved my boppy! I did nurse though, and it was really helpful there, also helpful with my c-section recovery. But we got tons of use out of it aside from nursing- lounging, tummy time, sitting up ( makes a great prop to get really cute pictures!) But I think you can get it much cheaper than 40 dollars. They also have special attachments to turn it into a baby gym. You can buy a bare naked boppy and a slip cover, I wonder if that is cheaper?
Hey! I didn't nurse my daughter but we used the Boppy alot. It came in really handy when she was first lerning to sit up but was still unstable. I would put it behind her for support. I highly recommend a Boppy!
My first child didn't nurse well, but we (both my husband and myself) loved the Boppy even when we were giving him a bottle. It gives us a nice platform to lay him down on while he's eating and is much more comfortable, even when he's being held while asleep. It's also useful when the babies are a little older and starting to sit, but need some support. I used it for tummy time as well when the kids were a little older.
Hope that helps.

If uou are looking for a cheaper on than the brand name Boppy then goto a JoAnnes Fabrics that has pollows and such. I got a cheaper Boppy lookalike there.
I have a boppy pillow this time around and it is one of the few things I didn't have the first time that I'm glad I splurged on. I used when I was nursing and even when I stopped. It is great even when you are using it for play time. They can lean on their tummies against it and play or to lean against it with their back and you can play with them. I love it and definitely think it was worth the money.
Hi,
My Daughter LOVED the Boppy pillow. (She's five now.) I did breastfeed, but didn't use the pillow for it. It was great to help her hold her head up. If you get the one that has toys attached, its great for them to learn to focus. It has a lot of purpose. I no longer have it, but I were to have another child, I would definitely invest in it again. Hope this helps!
I used mine to hold her while I fed her with a bottle (to give my arms a little break.) Also, we propped her up on it, sat her in it, used it to keep her from falling over when she was learning to sit... My husband liked using it as a pillow too! My daughter is 8mos now and we have packed it away, however, it was used A LOT up until about 6 months. You can get the "bare naked" one for about $20 and a basic slip cover for about $15. Or make your own cover!
I have three kids, 5, 3(almost 4), and 1, and used the same boppy pillow for each one and it was totally worth it. I did breastfeed, but it was useful for so much more than that. When the kids were learning to hold their heads up and it was tummy time, it was less frustrating for them to be kind of draped over the boppy, that way their face wouldn't be in a blanket if their head kind of dropped a little. As they got older it got to help them sit up, and even older it became a tv pillow. The only reason that we do not still have it is because my sister in law just gave birth and is using it, and she isn't breastfeeding. I agree with the other responder who commented about it being a comfortable pillow for needing firmness. After having three kids I think that things I could have gone without (diaper genie, a million receiving blankets and bibs) this is definitely one of the things I would do over again. In fact, when the sister in law is done with it we are most likely going to get it back as a tv pillow again. It's definitely stood up to the test of time.
I had a bobby given to me and I never used it. I tried but I found it more akward. I only breastfeed for a little bit. I used a regular pillow. I think for the $40.00 (plus I did purchase a cover for it approx. $12.00) that it's not worth it. Good Luck
I used the boppy with my son but I breastfed him.. Its a nice thing to have especially if you breastfeed but if your not then its not really necessar, because half the time i ended up using a pillow and proping it anyway so it kind of has the same effect as a pillow can but just not wrap around your waist... Me being a first time mom i had to have everything but now that I look back that was a waist of money.
I love my boppy, but I do breastfeed and it is more than helpful whether you do or not. There are uses for it that go beyond breastfeeding, you can bottle feed with it as well! You can also use it prop the baby up on the floor when you need a moment, it's also good for 'tummy time' and good for keeping the baby cuddled up when you are on the couch. It's definitely worth the investment.
i had one and personally i never used it even when i was breast feeding, it just was not comfortable for me for some reason.
YES!!!! The Boppy Pillow is worth the price tag. I had my son 2 years ago and didn't breast feed. It helped him sit up and after I got out of the hospital, It helped me hold him because i had a c-section. he loved to cuddle with it. I even put it in his be to help stop him form rolling over at night onto his tummy
I used mine all the time. I used it all day, every day for him before he was big enough to sit - I would lay a blanket over it and then lay him on top of the blanket, that would kind of boost him up so he wasn't laying flat on the couch. (also great if he had a stuffy nose - it elevated his head). It was great for keeping him in place so he wouldn't roll off the coach. Once he started learning to sit, I could sit him up in the middle of it with that kind of around him to assist with his balance. I really recommend it. Also, when I bought it, it came with a free one-year subscription to Parents or Parenting magazine.
NO way! If she isn't breastfeeding, don't bother! If she feels she has to have one just because...check craigslist.org for one that is lightly used.
The boppy pillow is WAY overpriced, but I think it is well worth it. I used it to nurse, then used it for "tummy time". I also used it to put around her once she started to sit up to help support her and now she is one and lays on it all the time! I absolutely LOVE it.
Hi A..... My S-I-L gave me her boppy when I had my son. I did breast feed, but found it to be very cumbersome... but when my husband gave him his bottles once I returned to work, he LOVED it. Also, when Collin was learning to sit, it gave him a little support to lean against. I would recomend the design, but you can find an equivalent product much cheaper. Hope this helps! Good luck!

HATED my boppy for Breast feeding but LOVED my boppy for everything else. I have 3 kids and used the same boppy on all 3 ( they are durable) On my first i took my baby with me EVERYWHERE... so it was a good way to have somewhere to place the baby (ie the bathroom... I would place a soft conforter or blanket on the floor and put the boppy with my baby in it (watching me) as I took a shower or went to the bathroom... I had no one else to help me) I did this with all three... also used it to help baby balace when starting to sit up, Tummy time worked wonders... but the cutest use was to place boppy in between the older siblings legs and place the paby there... The big sisters were so proud to be "holding" the new baby!!!
Yes it is worth the $40... even now my 5 year old lies on the floor with it to prop her head up as she watches tv!
PS look in ebay... they have them new and cheaper!@!!!
Hello A.,
In my opinion the Boppy Pillow was one of the best gifts I received. I breast fed my son, so it was very helpful for that. I also used it for support when he was just learning to sit up, and also for tummy time.

loved mine-totally worth it. I think they came out about 6 years ago or so. Also there is a boppy cover that's soft and washable-worth it as well.I'ts not just for breastfeeding. When you put it around your stomach (while sitting) even to bottle feed, it gives your arms a rest, so you can eat at the same time, etc. Lots of uses.
Hey A.! If you are looking for a cheaper boppy pillow look in WalMart. That's where I got mine and the ones there are about half price and they are softer than the boppy. I loved mine, they come in handy a lot! I would advise to get either a boppy or the ones at WalMart. They really help alot!!
Hi, I have an almost 5 months old baby and I bought the Boppy pillow and it was very helpful to put me at a more comfortable position when feeding the baby. Now that he is older and much more stronger I am using it for helping him sit up I also use it as a body pillow for him. He always liked it because he was not at a flat lying down position all the time. I think it is worth the $40 because I know you are not breastfeeding but it will give the baby an additional position to be in.
Even if not breatfeeding it is still a great tool. It is good for helping the baby to sit when it is time and it can cradel him when is young and you don't want him to roll. :)
I really enjoyed mine. I did breastfeed, but again it is useful for many other items.
i have 4 kids, nursed all for a year- WITHOUT THE BOPPY. if you need extra help holding up your baby, regular foam pillows (the thick ones) work really well.
Look in TJ Maxx, I saw them for 15 or 20 there. I liked them because when I had to feed my daughter with the bottle in bed I could keep her close while doing so. You know when you are half asleep from the numerous times of feeding in the middle of the night. Later I used it when I needed a firm pillow. Strange but it worked for my neck. Good luck. Jen
Hi A.,
I did not breastfeed and I still have a Boppy. They are worth the money but you can find them way cheaper than $40.00. I use it to help my little girl keep her balance while learning how to sit. It also helps her to play with her toys by propping her up a little higher. The cover is so easy to take off and wash also. I love her Boppy and I hope this helps you.
I had 2, and personally I NEVER used them. I tried, but they did not work for me and I just did not like them. They are hard and big (compared to the baby). It was too wide for the rocking chair and the baby would be positioned way above me, so I couldn't breat feed. I also preferred to hold the baby close to me and breast feed. Why put it on something that would separate you from the baby. I think the physical contact with the baby is very important. I gave them both away. Maybe others liked them, but I didn't, at all.
I loved the boppy! I didnt breatfeed my daughter, but even bottle feeding it helped out a lot. I recommend it, and check out consignment shops, they come with removeable covers so you can either wash the one it comes with or you can buy a cover replacement from the store.
You can buy the Boppy Pillow at BJ's for about $15 - when in stock. I think they are worth it - my husband uses it when he bottle feeds. It really does make it easier on your arms especially as the baby gets bigger and if you are using a rocking chair it protects your arms from hurting when they are leaning on the wooden arm rails. I also used it to lay our daughter in when she was smaller ( 1- 2 months). My daughter is double the average height and weight so I imagine a "normal" baby could lay in it longer...
I realize that this question was posed a long time ago but for anyone else looking for advice/reviews on the boppy, I thought I'd give mine. The Boppy seemed to be quite popular when I had my first daughter but I didn't get one as a gift so I figured I could do without one. I breastfed my daughter with a regular pillow I tucked under my arms and that was just fine for me. When my second daughter came around, I had "heard" that a Boppy pillow is great for moms who've had a c-section so I bought the Boppy before my daughter was born just in case it would come in handy. I hated using it. I did have a c-section but didn't find the pillow to be helpful at all. Since I consider myself a photographer, I primarily used the pillow to prop my daughter up or I'd place a blanket over it and place her small body in the "hole" of the boppy to photograph her. For photography, the Boppy worked great! I saved it for my third baby and used it solely for taking pictures but for any other reason, save your money. The Boppy is big, bulky and honestly, not that comfortable to use. Get yourself a pillow off of your bed and use that instead. I hope others find this info helpful.
I did not breast feed either but I loved my Boppy and used it all the time just to lay Dillon in and keep him secure. He loved it. I would also use it when I bottle fed him too because it really helped support me when feeding him and it was comfortable for both of us. But it was also the perfect shape to prop him up a little and keep him from accidentally rolling around.
