Books for New Baby

Hi! My brother (with a little help from his wife) are expecting their first baby. They live in Europe and my parents are going over there for a visit next week and taking all of the gifts I have purchased for the new baby. I'd really like to purchase a nice little book as well that I can write a little something in cover to the baby. Any suggestions on a welcome to the world book for a baby/child? Out of all the books our kids have, nothing stands out as all that "special."

Any suggestions are appreciated!

What can I do next?

Guess How Much I Love You is a classic (It's where the saying "I love you to the moon and back" comes from)

Hi M.---Another great one by Dr. Seuss is 'Oh the Places You'll Go'. It might seem like it's more appropriate for an older child, but it really has a great message.

Congrats. D.

There's a beatifully moving book called "On the Day You Were Born". I LOVE it...so beautifully written....

Here's an excerpt: "On the eve of your birth ... the Earth and her creatures with the Sun and the Moon all moved in their places, each ready to greet you the very first moment of the very first day you arrived."

My 2 year old likes to read it at night....we do lots of hugs and cuddles during it. Such a sweet book.

Ha! I didn't read Cami's answer! I second it....such a lovely book.

We received the book On The Day You Were Born by Debra Frasier as a gift for our first child. Before he was born I read it, but the meaning of the book didn't hit me until he was born, and even more each time I read it to him. It tells the story of our spinning world, and the excitement felt when a new baby is born. Congratulations to your brother and his wife.

One of my absolute FAVORITES when my son was born was "I Love You as Much" by Laura Krause Melmed (I hope I am spelling it correctly.) It is about the love that all mothers (different animals) have for their baby. I know that it is your brother (not sister), but I am sure that your sister in law would love it.

I got my friend the book version of "What a Wonderful World" that is illustrated by Ashley Bryan. I highly recommend it as well. THe picture are vibrant and the message is, as we all know, beautiful.

Congrats on the new niece or nephew!!!

you can't go wrong with a classic children's book. good night moon is great, where the wild things are, dr. seuss abc's (my daughter is 5 and still goes for this one)...any dr. suess book would work, harrold and the purple crayon, any mother goose book. they have many cute books with the mother goose tales in them. any book you choose will be great.

"Love You Forever" is a good book too, although my son also has "On the Night You Were Born" and it really is wonderful. "Love You Forever" is very sweet and my son loves it when we read it at bedtime.

Another vote for On The Night You Were Born. I love it, and so does my son. I have read it to him since he was born. I even ended up getting the baby book that uses quotes and illustrations from it.
