I would go through an agent. It doesn't cost you any more and it will save you a lot of hassle.
Enjoy the cruise!
My 5 year old and I will be taking our first cruise soon! And we are planning to go with another mom and child. We want separate rooms, but maybe close together would be ideal. Is there a way to book rooms together online or should we go to an agent? TIA!

I'm not sure, but when we have booked rooms close to friends we also did it through an agent. I really would recommend using an agent anyway, especially if it's your first cruise. They can help you with a lot of stuff that you wouldn't otherwise know.
Also, some ships allow the balcony dividers to be unlocked so that you can move from one room's balcony to another and that would be awesome for your situation! That way you have separate rooms but can go between them easier AND you and the other mom can hang out together on the balcony when the girls go to sleep! I would ask the travel agent when you're booking they might know. We were able to do it one cruise, but not the other, I think it might depend upon the age of the ship.
Have fun!
The only time I cruised with friends and we had rooms next to each other we went through a travel agent. But, I think you can also just call the cruise line directly to book the rooms and I'm sure they could help you with the room selections over the phone at no charge. PS. I would recommend the Disney Cruise :-)
If you are booking on line you pick your cabin .Never a problem. If you do a guarantee booking (these are less money) you are guarteed a room in a certain category-whichever you chose but you do not get a room assignment until day of cruise.
I booked 2 rooms in a hotel for this past weekend thru Hotels.com and didn't realize that I'd have to call the hotel directly to ensure that we could have adjoining rooms. Fortunately, they were still able to accommodate us. I would be on the safe side and book thru the cruise line its self. I talked directly to Hotels.com on the phone and they didn't realize or didn't tell me I had to make arrangements with the hotel. I'd be sure to ask the agent. I wouldn't do it on line because there's no way to get info and feedback.
Hi! You, guys, will have a blast! I would recommend to go through agent - it is easier to arrange stuff, especially when traveling with the kids. The agent will also be able to connect your rooms as a bundle. It will allow you not only be next door to each other, but also be seated at the same table at restaurant. Enjoy your cruise!
We have always picked our rooms online.
We took our son on his first cruise when he was 3 and he loved it! Both of you will have so much fun.
I would go through travel agent. You can look online to see how the decks are set up, but a special request is best accomodated thru a TA. We went w/ another couple 2 years ago, we each had a 7 year old child. We wanted to be next to each other, but the ship we chose was set up as double(2 people) and then next cabin was for a triple or quad(3 or 4 people). It alternated that way per cabin. It was just the way that particular ship was set up. But the travel agent did get us as close together as possible. We had one cabin in between us.
Now we went on a cruise this past Oct. w/ my whole family and got three cabins in a row(a double, quad and triple). All with balconies that we connected. It was great.
On another cruise, it was just the 3 of us and I wanted to try an aft balcony. Those were set up for 2 people only on this particular ship according to the website, but my travel agent gave them a quick call and arranged for us to put a rollaway in there for my then 4 year old. Would not have been able to do that online.
I see you are in Orlando. We use a great travel agent in Longwood. My parents cruise at least 4 times a year and have used this TA for years. Private message me if you would like her info.
