Hello Mommies!

I have a 2 month old and she now stays awake most of the day. I want to make the most of our time together during the day but I have no idea what sorts of activities I can be doing with her at this age. We read and talk and sing but I don't know many nursery songs. Any suggestions? Does anyone know of a good book that I can reference?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I good place to start is to get the following CD’s: “Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams” and “Classic Nursery Rhymes” by Susie Tallman. We have practically worn them out. At first they sound a little odd, because my ears weren’t tuned to children’s music, but after a few times, I learned to love each and every song, and I learned all the words. I played and sang “Lullaby Themes” every night to my baby for the first 2 years. Now she is 3 1/2 and loves and still requests, “Classic Nursery Rhymes” which she calls ‘They Frogs’, because of the paintings on the CD. I also learned to love and cherish “Baby Beluga” by Raffi. (you can buy many more of CD’s by these quality musicians, but this is a good start) Also, I started using a big set of ABC cards, 8 1/2” X 11” with paintings of animals, when she was only 3 months old. I talked to her about the letters and pictures, and even though I didn’t get much response out of her I felt she was enjoying the exchange. I never pushed or over did, but now at 3 1/2 she still loves to do what she calls the ‘Letter Game’. (and she knows all the letters) We have lots of different letter games we do now, but I know she has a fondness for the original big picture cards.

I loved dancing with my little guy, and he loved it too. I recommend the Putumayo CDs ,especially African playground. It's upbeat and exposes your little one to music from other cultures. Putumayo has many kids CDs (Animal Playground, Latin Playground, French Playground, Brazilian Playground ...) Now he hears music and dances by himself. It's so cute!! Also, mirror play, they love checking themselves out in the mirror. Join a local mommy group. Enjoy your little girl!!

The SuperConfitelligent Child: Loving to Learn through Movement and Play by D. C. Hornbeak.
My son’s picture is on the cover of the book!
It was just released January 10, 2008 so I am not yet in Barnes and Nobel or Borders. (contact me at ____@____.com)
Here is one mom's review of my book, "I could not put D.'s book down--wanting to continue reading 'just one more page' before I retired for the evening. It is jam packed full of ideas and information to raise a SuperConfitelligent Child. Very easy, fun, interesting and informative read for parents and professionals." Pam B Fullerton, CA
My suggestions and activities begin during pregnancy with a big emphasis on the formative years-birth to Kindergarten. Some activities are categorized for the seven senses that I include which makes them sensory integrating for all children. My intention in the book is to give parents connecting activities that are developmentally sound for their children and prepare them for a lifetime of loving to learn.

Please check out the baby activities book published by Gymboree, it has everything that you are looking for (just google it). It does not take much to tire out a 2 month old, because everything in her world is exciting and new (very stimulating). If she is awake most of the day, I'd suggest coming up with a schedule or routine that works best for you and then put her down to sleep for naps. She will cry at first, a lot, but the truth is she is probably over-stimulated by her surroundings.
