Just finished the book Because I Said So! The Truth Behind the Myths, Tales and Warnings Every Generation Passes Down to its Kids by Ken Jennings. It's an easy fun read and you'll be a know-it-all when you're finished.

Dark Tower/Gunslinger series by Stephen King. Not a horror, but an epic western, romance, intrigue, action, and everything else.

Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. Don't be put off by the horrible movie they made out of it...the series is the only set of books I have EVER read that actually had me laughing out loud uncontrollably. Light reading, but absolutely hilarious.

I love to find an author whose style of writing is appealing. Love Wally Lamb, Jennifer Cruse, Lorna Lanvik, Tawni O'dell, just off the top of my head. Other books, Unbroken, The Help, The Lovely Bones (so much better than the movie!) Rules of Civility, The Immortal Henrietta Lacks, I LOVED the Rob Lowe biography and he wrote it himself. My next book club read will be In the Garden of Beasts and my next personal read will be the Mindy Kaling biography, she cracks me up! Oh, and I like the Jodi Piccoult books, but some can be depressing. Nicholas Sparks has just become too sappy, but nothing makes me cry more than The Notebook. Happy Reading and enjoy your vacations.

If you're wanting funny, check out anything by David Sedaris or Augusten Burroughs. I laugh out loud when I read their stuff.

Another good book I've read recently is Proof of Heaven - A Neurosurgeon's Journey Into the Afterlife by Eben Alexander.

"Five Quarters of the Orange" by Joanne Harris - realistic fiction, centered around a mystery in WWII occupied France, and food - from the author of "Chocolat"

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness (beware, though - it's a new series, and book three isn't out yet!) - witch and vampire love story - in a world where witches and vampires are forbidden to socialize, much less marry, and then throw in a little action/adventure

"PIllars of the Earth" by Ken Follett - historical fiction

Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins - Better than the movie.

Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke - Still need to read the last in this series. Great series.

Phantom by Susan Kay - A narrative told through the eyes of the characters. It's writen from the view of the phantom of the opera himself.

Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Lerox - This is the original novel that all the movies and the play was based on. You must read it right from the beginning, because the creapy thing is that he was real.

Not sure what genre you enjoy, but here are some good ones:
Blue Heaven (by Elaine Kagan - may be difficult to find)
The Cotton Queen (Pamela Morsi)
Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man (Fannie Flagg) - quirky/funny
Fear Nothing (Dean Koontz) sci-fi ish
The Passage (Justin Cronin) this is horror/sci fi. The book is huge (approx 800 pages) but if you like this genre it's worth it. They're making a movie out of it. I think releasing this year.
