Yah, I still have to do the vaseline trick when I visit a dry place. Keep me by the ocean or I become a lizard!
My 19 month old has had lots of bloody noses this summer. I am guessing it is the heat becuase it isn't like he is picking it or constantly bumping it. We have a coolmist moisutrizer in his room at night and a fan since we have no AC, it seems to be helping for nights for sure. But what can I do in the middle of the day? For instance I was putting groceries in my car after shopping and it was probably almost 100 degrees outside, it felt really hot for sure. I turned around to get him out and out of no where his nose is bleeding. Has this happened to other kids? What did you do? I have heard put vaseline up the nose??? Is this safe? Ideas? Thanks ladies. They don't last long, but I feel bad for the poor kid!

My son has had nose bleeds since he was a baby. I had him thoroughly checked out to make sure it wasn't anything super serious since he also gets migraines.
The thing is that the capillaries in the nostrils are very delicate and even drying out too much can cause a bleed.
My son is perfectly healthy and at 17 still gets nose bleeds easily. We've dealt with them for many, many years.
Ask the advice of your pediatrician and go from there.
Moms freak out at blood, but bloody noses don't hurt. My son has had one in the night while he was asleep and didn't even realize it until there was blood on his pillow in the morning.
I would schedule a check up and let the pediatrician have a look.
Best wishes.
Sorry if this is a repeat suggestion, but try nasal spray. When we moved from Fresno to the high desert of Nevada when I was young, my brother got a LOT of bloody noses. The school nurse told our mom to make sure we're well hydrated and to use nasal sprays to keep the inside moist. Best of luck!
I do the Vaseline thing! You just need a tiny bit all over the inside and it keeps it moist. My hubby used to get bloody noses all the time until I made him try this...doesn't get them anymore
my sister had the most horrendous nose bleeds due to it being so dry. She did vaseline up the nose for a long time and it helped a lot.
My son did and still does get nose bleeds. I have taken him to the doctor many times and I can't tell you how many sheets have been ruined by the blood. He is healthy as a horse and for some reason that cannot be explained he gets nose bleeds. His doctor told him to put his tongue over this front teeth in the middle and push. I don't know why but it works! They told us not to put his head back because the blood with run down this throat. He doesn't get them as often, but he still gets them. He is now almost 20 years old.
ENT Dr told us to put just a little bit of "polysporin" up the nose once a day. it is like neosporin but nobody has an allergic reaction with polysporin and 3% of people are allergic to neosporin. it has seriously worked wonders at our house. we use the generic from walgreens that is called "walsporin". He said everyone in Utah should use this even if you don't get nose bleeds since it is so dry here. The point is to keep the nose membranes or whatever they are called up there moist. it is safe to use and when my hubby doesn't use it for a few days he will break out in random nose bleeds again.
First you should talk to his doctor about it. Second keep a log of when, how long, and where they have been happening. I know sounds odd but you might be able to see a pattern and it could be helpful to the doctor.
