Yes, have heard about it and want to know more. I'm O+ and have found when I "stick" with recommended things on the "diet" that I feel my best and have the most energy and least allergies!
Hey Ladies,
Has anyone ever heard of the Blood Type Diet by Dr. Peter D'Adamo? Like it's title suggests it is a way of living based on your blood type.
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this or has tried it and if so does it work? Has anyone discussed it with their doctors and what was the doctor's opinion of it?
It sounds reasonable, but I have completed the book yet? Is it worth spending time on it?
Thanks!
Well, I got some great responses, positive and negative. I think I will give it a try. Doesn't sound like it is really unhealthy, so I don't think it will hurt to give it a go. Thanks for all your reponses. I appreciate all the honest answers.
Have a great one!

Hi W. and ladies of Mamasource,
Please take a moment to consider TLC Wellbeing Center. My ad is on Mamasource and I do offer a discount. It is a short term eating program that will equalize your hormones and jump start your metabolism. I did the program myself while living overseas and was extremely excited with my results. With my background as an RN, I understand that weight loss is sooo much more than calories in vs. calories out. More times than not, it is all about a hormonal imbalance which is so common after children. I am the first one to bring this to the US. The company is based in South Africa and has been around for over 20 years. These truly are world leading individualized programs for weight loss and wellbeing. I don't have much money for advertising and have a spot on Mamasource. I have found that it is a word of mouth business. When you are excited, you can't help but talk about it! I have only been in Georgia for 3 months so I would appreciate anyone with questions to call or email me. I love to help people reach their goals! The best part...it truly does work!!!
Please consider TLC Wellbeing for your weight loss needs.

Have a great day!
i haven't tried it yet, but since i'm A- and mine is the strictest diet yet, i'm afraid to. but i'm getting ready to do the lap band or the gastric bypass so i'll have to start eating that way anyways... i only got the booklet for my particular type... no meat, no dairy, even certain spices are banned. my fave fruits are banned so i feel very limited with this diet.... but it's supposed to be very good for you...
I have read the book and culled some very useful things from it. There are a few items I tend not to eat anymore and it turns out that a lot of the things I liked were good for my type anyway! My mother has definitely benefitted from following it a little more closely than I because she has arthritis and not eating nightshade plants (tomatoes, red bell peppers, eggplant, etc.) has helped with inflammation. I think there is definitely something to it and recommend it. I do not follow a strict diet but, as I said, just subtract a few things that aren't on my list for 'O' bloodtype. Try a few of the suggestions and see how it helps you - nothing to lose!
Yes! I have been using it as a guide for 6 years! I feel so lucky to have found it. I had severe allergies and asthma as a child. They did not test for food allergies back then. I am B+. It is suggested I avoid tomatoes, chicken, and corn. I had these almost every day as a child. I had strep often.
My daughter had raw diaper rash when I had any tomato in my meal. She nursed. I have been pretty serious about the avoids.
When I first started the diet, I noticed my sinus infections basically seized unless I went off of it. Quite quickly, I dropped those last few pounds I had been trying to get rid of.
I don't eat as much meat/fish as it suggests. I supplement with other protein sources. I don't quite follow the exercise schedule but I sold my SUV and I have an almost 3 year old (very healthy). I think I get enough exercise. LOL
I have not discussed it with a doctor. We don't see one unless there is an emergency. Knock, Knock, none yet!
Great luck. I look forward to hearing how it goes!
Everyone I've known who's tried it said it was the best diet they ever tried - the best they ever looked and felt. As for the science of it, well the author is proposing a theory. Some "scientists" say nothing is true that they haven't proven yet (or failed to disprove yet). Well, that's just silly. Everything scientists have ever turned their minds to proving (disproving) is something someone else intuited or proposed first. The food choices are all very healthful, so you can't go wrong. Try it and decide for yourself.
Hey W.,
I hate to be the only one with a negative response, but as a nutrition/medical professional, I know that there is absolutely no scientific evidence to support this diet.
It may work for some because it's a healthier, lower calorie diet than they were eating prior to starting the diet, which would cause weight loss.
I would recommend starting a healthy lifestule regimen including eating 5-9 fresh fruits & veges per day, lowering your meat consumption, and eliminating sugar-based drinks & foods/ refined carbohydrates, and eating only complex carbohydrates (100% whole wheat breads, pastas, brown rice) in moderation. Low fat/ fat free dairy products are a great way to get calcium & protein too.

Hi!
I haven't tried it personally, but had a boss who swore by it. I saw him transform physically over a few months and was very impressed by what I saw. He said he felt so much better and no longer had issues like chronic heartburn and sluggishness. If you try it, I hope it works great for you to. He was a big advocate of the diet for sure!
Yes, my husband was talking about this just the other day.one of his customers was talking about how this diet according to your blood type can elimate heartburn, headaches, diarrhea, etc. Just by not eating curtain foods.for example: his customer according to his blood type should not eat fish & a few other foods (i don't know his blood type)& his says it works!!! Something to think about! Hope this helps!
I am type A which is a plant based diet. I was actually vegan when I read that part in the book. All I know is for me, a plant based diet works best for my digestion, my energy, and my overall well being. I've eaten meat and dairy, then only dairy, and I know my body responds best to strictly plant based foods. I can only tell you my experience, but certainly it was correct for me.
Hi W.,
I tried it with my family for a while and it did wonders for us. The only problem is I have 3 different blood types in my family of five. It overwhelmed me. And the things that the blood types food lists had in common were not things that my family enjoyed. With teenagers, that was a hard task.
If you have fewer blood types, lol, and your kids are younger, I would go for it. The philosophy behind the book makes sense. I feel most things that are good do make sense!
Good luck to you!

It's complete pseudo-science. There's not a shred of evidence, not a single clinical trial to back up his claims, and his theory of the evolution of bloodtypes is not quite accurate.
Even so, many of his suggestions for selecting foods are healthful so you may start eating healthier and losing weight anyway. But the way it correlates it to blood type is just... a little nutty.
The surest bet is the oldest advice: eat less, excercise more.
