Blood Drive

I want to set up a blood drive at my church for one of our preschool families that has a baby that has been diagnosed with leukemia. He has been needing blood transfusions and is having to wait for his blood type. I know that the blood will not necessarily go to him, but at least it will give people a face that needs the blood. Do any of you know what I need to do to organize a blood drive? I know my first step is to ask my church if they would be willing to host it, but what else do I need to do? I want to do something to help this family and I know it would mean so much to them.

What can I do next?

that link is for the red cross specifically but the tips on getting organized for a blood drive would work with any organization that is in your area. The procedures are the same for the actual process of donating blood anywhere you give (it's federally mandated).

http://www.redcrossblood.org/Missouri-Illinois that's the home page for your region. should have links and information also :)

Good luck and hope you get a great turn out.

When you ask your church for permission, also get a list of dates that would work. Then contact the Red Cross.

That's AWESOME you want to do this!

Contact the Blood Center in your area. They MAY even be able to get NEWS COVERAGE. People fall over themselves for these kinds of "stories."

I donate all the time. BEST way to lose a pound! :)

Good luck and sending prayers your way.

Call the Red Cross. At least that is who in our community does blood drives.
