Bloated

Hi moms,
I've been having some odd symptoms and was wondering if anybody has any suggestions to what it may be.
bloating, light pressure in lower stomach (kind of like a urinary tract infection feeling but not painful just uncomfortable), frequent bathroom visits number 1 and 2. I had the same symptoms a few months ago and went to the dr. because I was sure I had a urinary tract infection and bladder infection, but my urine was clean. They said it may be a cyst because I'm ovulating. I'm sure it's nothing major but the bloating is really bothering me....any suggestions or advice would be great. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

See an OB/GYN, not a primary care doc. This might be something relatively benign, or it could be something serious, something that only a gynecologist would pick up on (like Ovarian cancer).

Also, any chance you are pregnant?

Trust your instincts and be diligent if you really believe something is wrong.

I'd caution you against doing too much research on the internet. It can drive you crazy and possibly make you diagnose yourself incorrectly. But, be diligent.

What kind of doctor did you visit previously?
If it wasn't your OB/GYN, I'd recommend calling them and asking to be seen. If it was, get another opinion from your primary care provider.

I'd found a small nodule on my collarbone right after the birth of my daughter, did some research, called my OB/GYN the next day who wasn't really concerned (scheduled me for an appointment the next week for follow-up). My instincts said to get another opinion - I went to my Family Practitioner who was more concerned and scheduled ultrasounds, biopsies, CBCs.

Glad I did because I had a serious health condition (I don't want to give details so I don't concern you). But, if your instincts are to press on, I would.

Hopefully, it's anxiety, but the peace of mind is priceless.

Hi J.,

You need to be diligent to find out what it is but you can do a few things in the meantime. First of all drink plenty of non-chlorinated water. I would also get on a colon cleanse and make sure that that is not an issue. Many people carry excess waste in their system if they are not evacuating after EVERY meal. That can cause bloating. I can recommend one if you need.

It's also very possible that your ovulation is painful because of stress. Is there anything else going on in your life? I thought I was going to die once and it was simply stress and ovulation in combination. It felt like I had a fist in my belly and I needed to go to the bathroom even though there was nothing there. It took a couple of days but went away on it's own.

You're best bet is to try to determine what this is by the process of elimination especially if your doctor is not helpful. If you still have symptoms then you may want to seek out another opinion. My first option would be a ND and not an MD.

Hope I helped!

M.

Without scaring you, get checked again. Ovarian cancer has very vague symptoms and it isn't something to brush off.

Definitely check it out with an OB/GYN. I had issues with my lower right side for years...up to 20 years! Sometimes it was an ovarian cyst, other times it felt like a digestive thing. Years later, I had a severe ovarian abscess and ended up having both the right ovary and right fallopian tube removed due to the infection.

I learned that when you have an infection or issue with your ovaries, it can often slow down your digestive system. What felt like bloating, excessive burping, dull tugging on my belly button, slow bowels, or lower right pain (deep inside), ultimately was a gynecological issue. Unfortunately,my doctor and I steered each other wrong by talking about all of the secondary symptoms of my digestive system.

When I finally ended up with a big fever, pain, bleeding, etc., the ER did some scans and found the abscess. Antibiotics didn't knock it down at all after several days in the hospital. Removal was the outcome.

One thing to realize is that all women have ovarian cysts at some point. Most go unnoticed, but some become problematic. Cysts that twist can be very painful. Others just feel like a nagging presence. It was almost like mine exploded and then got infected.

Our bodies are so interconnected, it's amazing! Pay attention to when you notice things--where are you in your cycle, what have you eaten, sleep, etc. Does anything precede the symptoms on a consistent basis? Then when you go to the doctor, you have a little background to help piece together some possibilities.

It may indeed simply be a cyst. An ultrasound can often see something like that, right in the OB's office. Meanwhile, just keep track of it all. It never hurts to be prepared when you are asked questions.

Be your own best advocate and don't let them make you think you are imagining things. You know your body and trust that it's talking to you. It may be a little bedtime story it's telling you. But it also may be a suspenseful cliffhanger that bothers you till the story is completely finished.

Good luck! : )

Your doctor should look for possible ovarian cancer. That is a symptom. They can tell you by doing CT scan. Also there are blood tests to detect the presence of anything ominous.

If it were me I would get checked for Ovarian Cancer, especially if it's in your lower region. I don't want frighten you but you need to insist on further testing -- you need to push them. It could be nothing

When I was reading your description, I thought "cyst" before I got to that part. I've had several that were larger than the normal ovulation cysts and the symptoms were what you described. I can't really offer you any suggestions, other than to avoid ovulation... but that may not be plausible. Drink lots of water and try to get a little bit of exercise every day. Take it easy on yourself and if you are concerned, see your doctor.
