You are shedding the lining of your uterus that has been building up since the last time you had a period. I don't know how long that has been but I'm assuming quite a while. You should go see your gyno to rule out anything serious like cancer or dysplasia. Then ask to be put on Metformin. It will help to balance your hormones and regulate your cycles a little better. If you don't want to get pregnant you will need to use some form of birth control with it because it can cause you to ovulate unexpectedly. If you don't want to do that then you could get a prescription for Prometrium. You take that for the first 10 days of the month and when you stop it you will have a period. It is like the birth control pill but it won't prevent ovulation or pregnancy. They may also give it to you to stop the current bleeding. If you can't go to the doctor you might try the chinese herb, Dong Quai, it helps to regulate the menstrual cycle also.
Get the book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler. It will explain a lot and be a big help.

I had the same thing except it was heavy and lasted for 4 months before the Dr. said,"Hmmmm, lets run some tests." PCOS can cause other hormones to 'upset'. I ended up positive for Hypothyroidism and later diabetes. I would have a thyroid test run just to rule it out.

I've had PCOS my whole life and never really got any help from MDs (just put me on the pill or whatever - doesn't cure the problem, just masks the symptoms). I finally started going to an ND (naturopathic physician), and learned so much and was truly helped with my issues (started having a normal cycle - had none before most of the time, lost weight, etc.). I was even able to get pregnant, without drugs or anything. They go to college then four years of naturopathic medical school, only they learn how to cure the body or help it to help itself. You can find one at naturopathic.org. Also, do some research online. There are lots of books for helping yourself by changing diet and such - the same things a naturopath would have you do (such as cutting refined carbs). A book that really helped me as well (and prompted me to start looking for a different kind of doctor) is Feeling Fat, Fuzzy or Frazzled by Shames, MD. Good luck, and I totally understand what you're going through.
