Blankets?? - Waterford,MI

My 20 month old son still sleeps in a sleep sack. He wears the X-large size and is quickly growing out of it. I have tried to give him regular blankets to sleep with but he almost always kicks them off and he ends up sleeping without any covers. I'm worried that he will be cold without the sack. Has anyone else else experienced this? What did you do?

At 20months he is quite capable of getting his own blanket should he get too cold. :-D If you are really worried about him getting too cold footed jammies are great!

Hi C.,
We are living in Germany right now and they have sleep sacks for babies up to age 5. There selection is much wider than in the USA. Our little girl is just over 2 still wearing them. It's nice not to worry about her becoming uncovered and cold in the night. They stay so cozy warm! So anyways, I did a quick search on google for "german made sleep sacks" and this was just one of the links that came up.

http://www.pampersack.com/products.asp?cat=10

They have sacks up to 3T. :o) And at an affordable price. I haven't bought from them since we are still here, but I'll be bookmarking the site myself for future reference.
Happy warm & cozy sleeping!

Ooo, found one more:

My daughter kicks her covers off all the time. She falls asleep covered up, but with in a half hour she has her covers off. Just make sure he has warm jammies, like the fleece footie kind. You could always take the sleep sack to someone who can sew and have them make him a bigger one (or do it yourself if you know how to sew).

put him in a footie sleeper he will be fine he probably wiggles out cuz hes too warm. With the sleep sack he can't wiggle out cuz its a sack. I'm sure he likes the freedom. just put him in a warm sleeper he will be fine.

My sons are almost 20 months old and we use the toddler sleep sacks. They're hard to find so I ordered mine online directly from Halo: https://www.halosleep.com/products/detail/90/micro-fleece...
They're great because their feet stick out so there's plenty of room and they can move around easily. We love, love, LOVE them!

I have had the same problem, I am 28 yr old mom of three very busy boys. One of whom is very very busy even while he sleeps. What I did was purchase the footed pjs they feel almost like a blanket yet allow for them to move and will keep him warm (he was a sleep walker). You should find them in packs of two usually for a great price @ walmart or kmart even target. My son loved them due of course to the fun graphics or characters on them. He still loves wearing them and he will be 7yrs. old in september.

Hope this helps,
B.

Hi C.,

My daughter is 19 months old and hasn't worn a sleep sack, or anything like it since she was about 8 months old. We keep our house pretty cool at night, even in the winter. (thermostat set at 60 at night)

If it is going to be freezing or below at night I put my daughter in fleecy footy pjs.... you can pick them up just about anywhere. But on warmer nights, like we have been having she just wears normal pj's and if I feel like she needs it ... some socks. I do cover her with a blanket, but she moves around so much she comes uncovered. Before I go to bed I cover her back up. She's always pretty warm when she wakes up and never seems bothered by the lack of 'extra' layers.

I tried doing the onesie plus jammies thing... and she would wake up too hot. So, we stopped that.

I've always been told to dress them in one layer more then myself. I wear a tank top to bed...so my daughter wears longs sleeves.

My son is 14 months old and sleeps in footed jammies with no blanket, and always has, not even a sleep sack. He does fine. On really cold days I put socks on him too. Your son should be fine too.

Hi C.,

My son has the same problem. During the winter he wears 2 pairs of pajamas at night. When it is really cold, he wears a 2-piece fleece pajama set (with socks) and then a pair of footed, fleece pajamas. He's always pretty warm when he wakes up. Good luck.

My daughter is the same way (she's 2 now) and never sleeps with covers on. So I just have a small space heater in her room, turned on to low, and then I don't worry about her getting too cold. I also put lots of blankets in her crib, so she is on a warm soft bed and whenever she decides to start using them, they'll be handy.

If you're really concerned, see if you can make one in his size, or find someone who sews that could do it.

Best wishes!

I put my son in the blanket sleeper pj's (the ones with feet) over a pair of cotton pj's. Some people think I am weird for that but it works. My son is also 20 months old and we have been doing this since he was 12 months and also did this with my now 3 year old daughter.

My Daughter also sleeps in a Sleep Sack. The last one I bought, I noticed an advertisement on the back that they are available in larger sizes, I don't have any more info than that, so maybe the next time you are at B.R.us you could check out the back of one. I think there was a website listed. I think the Sleep Sack is a great item and will use them as long as my daughter will wear them.

The Children's Place sells lightweight feety pajamas that you could use for summer.

When my daughter was that age and rolled around a lot, I used a large but lightweight blanket and tucked it in to the bed (top, sides, and bottom) with a little slack so she could turn over. That way she couldn't roll out from under the blanket.

Hi C.
I always put my son in regular pajamas, then a blanket sleeper over it (the fuzzy kind with feet) becuase of the same thing.

I also would tell him when I put him to bed that if he woke up and was cold he should pull his covers on him. I wanted ot make sure that he knew that was what the covers were for! :)

Good luck!

My kids kicked off their covers. If they're cold, they'll keep them on. I wouldn't worry.

My son is 13 months and ever since he was able to stand in the crib I have used Blankeaze (a wearable blanket with legs) because he was tripping when he stood up in the sleep sack. I love the Blankeaze - he wears them over footed pajamas and always wakes up warm and cozy but never sweaty. I purchased mine at onestepahead.com. They are sized up to 3T. The discount code BDAYAPL will get you 15% off through the end of April.

I personally love footie pajamas and I know they keep my daughter warm even if she doesn't have a blanket on her. If he tends to get cold feet, you can always put socks on his feet under the PJs.

My little girl is 30 months old and still sleeps in the xtra large sleep sack by Halo. It still fits her well. However I wondered what I would do for next winter. Thanks for asking this question. I will look into the German made ones, because I use footed jammies and still like to put her in the sleep sack as we turn the thermostat down at night to save money on the gas bill. Thanks.
