Blankets

Hi!
We've had the same problem in our girls' room. It is right over the garage and with wood floors, always seems to be freezing. After two people recommended oil-filled radiators (available at Target for $20-30), we tried one and it's great!! The room is maintained at a comfortable temp. all the time now. I was really worried about fire risk, so I didn't want a space heater or anything like that. I am totally comfortable with this in their room. As long as you don't throw blankets or items directly on it, it's not a fire risk.
Another option- In the winter months when mine was little, I layered a long-sleeved onesie, then a carter's sleeper, and over that a carters fleece sleep sack (those are awesome!_ I think they may even have the sleep sacks with hand mittens on them. Good luck!

I had the same problem in our previous house. Instead of giving my daughter a blanket, I went to Target and bought a small heater and placed it in her room. We were in Dallas at the time so humidity was not an issue. In Olathe, you want to make sure that the air is not too dry because of the heater.

How strong is your son's neck?Can he lay on his back and move his head back and forth easily? I gave both my kids blankets at that age. Just make sure he falls asleep on his back and he is strong enough to move the blanket if it gets up around his face. Since you still feed him during the night, you will be able to check on him more. don't feel bad about that either. My son, age 3, woke up for night feeding until he was 11 months old. Then I weened him. Now he wakes up just because. My daughter was weened at 14 months old and also woke up until she was weened.

I started putting a blanket over my son rather early, but it seemed that he wiggled so much it didn't stay on long. I like the idea of a crocheted blanket. My son's room is the coldest one in the entire house. I know what they say about space heaters...but with a little searching I found one I'm very comfortable with. I got it at Strausser Hardware and it's called the Vornado. The unit does not get hot at all. In fact, it's sitting on his cherry wood dresser. It also has a thermostat that you can set. I turn it on right before he goes to bed. I turn my heat down a little at night and the space heater really compensates for that, not to mention, keeps his room where I would like it to be temperature wise. It does a very good job of cycyling on and off, and I turn it off first thing in the morning to keep electricity costs low. Just a thought for you! But if he's waking up to eat, and not because he's chilly, then I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Good luck!

I totally agree with Jill... we had the same problem, got the oil radiator for his room... not only are his naps long... the nights are great! Last night he slept 12 hours!!

They are silent and keep the room consistantly warm.

My husband and I put a space heater in our daughters room. She is too little for a blanket, but we wanted to make sure she was warm enough at night. I got one that has a temp. selection from 60-80 degrees and that allows it to turn on and off on its own. They are $25-$30. We also have a humidifier running to keep the air from getting too dry.

Try using Halo sleep sacks. They are like sleeping bags with arm holes. I have 2 little ones, and have been using them for years since the kids can't get smothered with them. My 3 yr old still fits in the XL size. There are 2 versions - fleece for winter and cotton for summer. If you Google them, I am sure you can find them on line. Babies R Us also sells them.

both my sons have had blankets since day one- my youngest (7.5mo old) sleeps with 2 pretty heavy blankets with no problems, once they can move around they can move the blankets off and on-- both my boys sleep with blankets on their faces and always have (runs in our families all the kids do!)-- if you are concerned start with a lightweight one or a crochet(sp?) one that allows more air thru!

My son is about 10 months old. I've been putting a blanket on him since he was six months old. We lived in an apartment that was very old and drafty. I don't think it would matter though because he too NEVER keeps his blanket on at night. He moves around too much. So I just make sure I keep him in warm pj's and I even put socks on his feet before i put him in the footed pajama's. It might also help if you could put his crib on the south end of the room (if that's possible).

I would give him a blanket, just make sure the sides and end are tucked tightly between the mattress and the crib rails. The blanket should be tightly pulled against him too to keep him from kicking it loose in the middle of the night.
