I would just put stuff on the actual glass to block out 100%. Some people put foil and stick it to the window. That's what my MIL did. Then she put pull down shades and heavy curtains too.

try a blackout shade cut to your window the curtains don't block all the light out it still comes in from the top, sides, and middle where the curtains meet.

my husband and I love our rooms pitch black and although dark opaque curtains help, we found we needed to get those blinds that completely block out light. (accordion style) you can put them right inside the window frame and it blocks it out. in fact, we have that and a 2nd set of blinds that goes over that, over the entire window as well. that one is semi-transparent tho, so it's nice when you want to let some light in but still have privacy/block the cold chill or whatever. THEN we have the dark opaque curtains over those. We got our blinds at Lowes for a good price. Trust me, we've tried everything over the years and this is the surefire way to go. Hope that helps!

There is a window tinting film you can buy to put on your window. However, even that will allow SOME light in. Your best bet to block all of the light is to cover your windows with black plastic or foil, but this will have to either be done every single day or you're going to have to lose all effects of your window completely.

you can buy thermal blackout curtain on overstock.. It seems to me the thermal lining makes for a much thicker backing on the curtain. Definitely blocks out the light, even on the ones where I picked light colors.

I hung my curtains a few inches above & the sides of the window & there is no light coming in. I bought my curtains at penneys.
Black out shades will help too.

I got my blackout curtains from Walmart and love them! If your kids are light sleepers also get a floor fan for there room. It drowns out the noise.. I have that for my son and myself because we're light sleepers

There aren't any curtains that actually block the light completely it will always come in through the sides and the top. You'll need to cover the windows with something to block out the light. possibly some black foam core board cut to the exact measurement of the windows.
