I have a Bissell lift-off bagless vacuum cleaner, I've had it since 2007ish and I haven't had any problems with it until a few days ago, I broke the belt that rotates the beater bar. I was finally able to get a replacement belt today and I put it on but the beater bar will not turn at all so I called Bissell and spoke with a customer service rep and she determined that something happened while I was using it and the vacuum is damaged. There is a whitish plug where the canister hooks to the floor part and the pins in there look singed so she told me they are e-mailing me a pre-paid label and I am to cut off the cord of the vacuum cleaner (so I won't use it and hurt myself I guess) and mail it to them and they are going to send me a new vacuum. My question is, has anyone ever done this before? It makes me nervous to cut off the power cord and mail it to them. What if they send me a crappy vacuum that isn't anything like the one I have now? She said they are sending me the newer model but I'm still nervous about it.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I cut off the cord (when it was not plugged in- duh) and mailed it to them a couple weeks ago and on Friday I received the new vacuum, it is the pet one and looks brand new (not refurbished) but who knows. So far it is doing a great job and has much better suction than the old one, this one has a new design. Thanks!

What have you got to lose? Your vacuum doesn't work now anyway.

they reason for cutting the cord is because they dont want to get scammed out of a new vacuum and then have you sell your old one or the new one to someone else..and if you sell the old one and they use it and get hurt , that would be no good..just cut it off(make sure it is unplugged :) ) and return it to them..if you get the new one and are unhappy..just call them back and request something else..even if you have to pay the difference in price

Go for it. Get the free new vaccum. The best things in life are free. I really don't think they would send you crappy vacuum.

Sounds like excellent customer service to me, especially for a vacuum that's three years old or more.

It's ok to cut the cord, as long as it's not plugged in of course!!

I haven't done this with a vacuum, but we had a highchair that we weren't happy with and they made me cut a specific size hole in the seat cover and send it to them so I couln't sell it, make money and get a new highchair. I'm with everyone else on this...go for it!
