My little girl is turning 8 in two weeks, I'm looking for ideas to do something special with her and maybe one of her friends. We don't want to have a party, just something special for her.
If she's "girly", take them for a manicure and out to lunch!
I see you are in Hyde Park, so I would suggest taking them to the Tea Room in New Paltz. I think you need a reservation, but they do an adorable Children's Tea Party- $14 per child. It is decorated and very cute and "fancy".

You could take them to a spa, jewelry making place, or pottery making place.
How about a day of pampering at a beauty parlor. In scarsdale however they are all over there's a salon for children called snip-it's they can get their hair done in beautiful styles, get their make-up done, get their nails done, etc. It's really fun and an 8yr old would love it. Or how about a pottery class again in Westchester county they have places where you can make your own pottery or pick out a piece, paint and decorate it and it's yours. How about a cooking class? In new rochelle there is restaurant called Don Coque and they have cooking classes for children she might enjoy that. I once wanted to do something special for my girls so I rented a hotel room at greatwolf lodge one night and we went to the indoor water park, had lunch and dinner and spent the night enjoying the hotel amenties. It was a lot of fun, greatwolf lodge is in the in Poconos.
Go see a movie with a few friends. If you make the plan ahead of time, they will sing happy birthday to her in the theater! Also, add in a pizza place or ice cream and you are all set.
