Hi! My son will be attending a classmates birthday party this Saturday, May 05th and I would like to know what gift she would like. I have two boys so I'm not sure what she would like. I know she likes to play with the boys quite a bit so I don't really want to get her the stereotypical "girl" gift. Also, I would like to keep it $10 and under. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

You could always call the girls mother and ask what sort of things she likes to get an idea. Or get her a gift card and a very small gift or cute card that has music.

I have a 7 yr old daughter, and she loves to get gift cards!! This way she feels like a grown up and can pick out what she wants. A few other ideas are: hair accessories, play makeup, dress up clothes, books, arts & crafts type things(she recd a gift that was a jewelry maker she loves) snow cone maker...etc...Hope this helped some!!

Any outdoor toy is good - bubbles or Frisbee - something like that.

My daughter is 11 and still not into the nails and hair thing too much. If the birthday girl is not really prissy, but is more of a tom boy, then pick something that your boys would like. A soccer ball, softball with mitt, some playdoh or silly putty, some building blocks (Lincoln logs or legos), some bubbles, etc.
if you don't know, markers, a notebook and stickers are usually safe for a girl and sometimes for a boy. The safest but most impersonal gift is MONEY!!

Hi P.

I have two boys as well, but I have lots of neices. I love any chance I get to shop or girls. It is hard to know what to get kids after about the age of six (boy or girl) because they are starting to out grow toys and some of the things they are into by this age can be expensive. Besides that if your son is in a class of 20+ kids there can be a lot of b-day invites, so that too can get expensive.

If you have to RSVP for the party I would ask the mom or dad for some ideas. If they are not home when you call leave a mssage asking them to call when they get a chance. You can also ask your son what he thinks she might like. The gift card option is always good, and when I just don't what to get or have a lot of parties in a row, I get a 99 cent b-day card and put a $5 bill in the card. I think by 7 my neices where into hair and nails so if your son has any idea about her hair length, or if she paints her nails you could get her some hair bows, clips or scrunchies. I have seen nail gift baskets for kids at Target and walmart. Another fun place to get girls that age a gift card or gift basket is Bath and body, they have a kids line that I always see girls in there gowing cazy for.

Anyway, those are just a few ideas. Good luck and have fun. I was also thinking if she has an ipod (a lot of kids do) you could get her an itunes gift card.

Well good luck! Let us know what you end up with and how she likes it.

Makeup is the best gift. My 10 year old loved and still loves makeup. Nail polish, hair things and braclets are great gifts too...

Hi P.. Our son gets invited to a lot of birthday parties and like you, I don't always like to get the "typical" gifts. Most kids already have so many toys so I like to do something different. For a recent party, I found a really cute outdoor set at Wal-Mart that included a beach towel, water bottle, and beach ball in this little plastic travel tote. It was only $9.98. There was a cute selection for girls. Another idea is a game or any outdoor stuff. Girls usually like nail polish and stuff so you could get a couple and make a little gift basket. Hope this helps.

Play-doh is always a great gift for boys and girls. The play-doh with the tools goes over really well with kids. I hope that helps.

Hi P.
I would go with what Brook H. said I noticed in the toys r us book that came in the mail last week that they have the sidewalk chalk but then you can slide it into this rake looking thing of sorts and write with it. I thought it was pretty cool, they had a couple other things pictured but I'm not sure what they were. Hope you find something. W..

hello,

I just received this service so I'm sorry I couldn't give you advice prior to the party, but with 7year old girls, anything like card games or those no mess Crayola painting activities work pretty well and both genders have fun, at limited costs.

I was interested to know how your two boys get along with the four year age difference. I have a four year old son and a 9 month old son (four years difference) and so far my 4 yr old helps out alot and likes to play with him, just wondered how your boys continue to do together. Also, what kind of activities do your boys like, my son is home all summer until preschool in aug., with all the rainy weather, wonders of wildlife is getting old! Plus my oldest is too loud at the library? Any ideas?, any boys clubs out there? haha

We go to a lot of parties and found most kids prefer a gift card for Toys R Us, Wal-Mart or Target. That way they are able to choose the gift they want! Hope this helps!!

Hi P., I have a daughter and I know at that age she liked just a cute notebook and a fancy pen. She would draw and write forever in it. I hope this might help as an idea, I know that wouldn't be very expensive.

You might try some gifts for play outdoors, like bubbles, chalk, jump rope, ball... Or I know Target and Dollar General as well as Wal-Mart has these little pots w/seeds in it that grows sunflowers, and other types of plants. They are like $1 and really fun, my son enjoys them a lot... Hope those ideas help!

I have a 7 year old daughter and I usually get board games for her birthday parties. I have also gotten a $10 gift card from Target...kids love to pick out their own gifts. Also, you could get one of those individual hand held games like tetris or neopets. Or you could get drop sticks for the pool or other pool toys. If you could find a $10 remote control car that would be fun too. If you know what kid of music she likes you could get her a CD (my daughter likes Hannah Montana, High School Musical or the Cheetah Girls). good luck!

This may sound very babyish but I guarantee she will love it. How about a good old fashioned ball? Remember the great tough ones they had when we were in elem. school? Well they have them for about $10 at Wal Mart. In the sports section they have generic looking red, blue, yellow and such. And in the toy section near the outdoor toys they have them in Disney and other characters. They are the textured tough ones that can take a beating and work great for any game (ie., soccer, kickball, foursquare, and even basketball. You may get an "Oh thanks." reaction but that will be the toy she plays with every weekend while the dolls, makeup, and board games will sit on a shelf or in her toy box. They are great toys but there is a reason the classics never fade... KIDS LOVE TO PLAY WITH THEM! :)

I have 2 daughters one 15 and the other just turned 9. My 9 year old is a tom boy and she loves getting gift cards. Gift cards are so popular with all ages anymore and you can get them from any store. Also, sidewalk paint is really awesome and Wal-Mart carries a really cool set for 10. It is located in the school supplies section. Hope this helps!!
