We used a referral service called Accredited Domestics. They are located in Chicago, but I think they work with the suburbs as well. If you google them, you can find their website. We were very happy with them. We found our nanny through them when I first went back to work after my son was born and still have her almost 2 years later. She is wonderful.

I've used sittercity and enannysource. Both have worked out great if you have time to find your own and do your own background type checks, etc. There are others out there that will charge a bunch but will do all the work for you. I've found that enannysource is generally more for the full-time "nanny professionals" and sittercity has more part-time evening/weekend/2 or 3 days a week type college students. But you can also find the full-time girls at sittercity.
