Stick with the shuttle.
With that many people a taxi will be expensive.
Once you've landed you've got to get your luggage and time flows differently in airports anyway.
It'll will be part of the adventure.
We leave for Disneyland in the morning and are flying into Orange county. We are staying at the Grand Californian. Originally we planned to take the Disneyland Resort Shuttle, but maybe it is just as cheap to take a private taxi? There will be 4 adults and one free child. My concern with the Super Shuttle type services is we have no idea when it will leave or where it will be stopping on our way to the resort. With the Resort Express shuttle, it leaves hourly and we might just miss the 10 am shuttle, which means we would be sitting in the airport with 3 kids age 6 and under for an extra hour.
Taxi? Van? Resort Shuttle? Suggestions? Thank you!!

Shuttle. So you sit for an hour. This is really, Not a big issue. By the time you get your luggage, maybe something to drink and wa la an hour has passed!.
Shuttle! My boys were so excited to ride on the Lightning McQueen bus! It was fairly cheap, and you know the fare up front, no extra traffic charges or sneaky long routes to worry about. All of the buses have different Disney themes on the outside, so it makes it part of the whole Disney experience.
If the cost is comparable, I would use a taxi if you miss the Resort Express. Super Shuttles take forever if you have to share the ride with other people who had separate stops.
One note of caution. I used to fly out of John Wayne Airport all the time on business. I found the taxi drivers to be extremely rude and inexplicably combative. This was the general consensus of my other co-workers who also had to take taxis out of John Wayne. This was 15 years ago, so I would HOPE that it is not the same company and same attitude out there.
Good luck, and have a great time!
