Hi Ladies,

I am going through a big detoxifying program with my health and am having some major facial breakouts from it. I am wondering what I can do to open up my pores to get the junk out. I am interested in natural and or products I can buy to get this under control.

My main issue is : a few acne spots but mainly bumps that are clogged pores underneath, melasma and peeling. Have a lot of whiteheads and completely blocked.

I am drinking alot of water and green tea.

Thanks so much!!!!

What can I do next?

Washing our faces with a paste made from baking soda and water seems to be helping me and my son.
The fine grit seems to help exfoliate and keep pores open and that means fewer breakouts.
If washing with it every day is too drying, then use it every other day.

It depends a little on how you are detoxifying. Are you doing one of those 3 day or 7 day cleanses? Actually, that's NOT a good idea - way too much stress on your body, and then it doesn't "hold" because you go back to your regular routines that got you into that situation. If you are doing an ongoing detox program as part of improved nutrition, that's much better, but of course it depends on what you are using and how safe/maintainable it is.

The toxins in your body only have 3 ways of getting out - elimination (urine/feces), mucus membranes (especially nasal passages), and the skin. So break-outs are normal and not a bad thing. For the clogging, you can do a natural or a professional facial. The professional ones cost more, of course, but they are also softening the skin and opening the pores gently with steam. Some people do it themselves but you have to be very careful not to burn yourself. Anyway, removing the dirt and oil that's clogging the pores can be helpful.

The oil production from below the skin, and the toxin release from deeper in the body, aren't really helped by anything you do topically. That's all nutrition and internal balance. So it depends on what you are already doing and what you are interested in doing. I do the whole thing because I am strengthening my immune system, reducing inflammation (the major cause of disease) and working to prevent cancer. There's great science on this and I'm doing some cutting edge but very safe things. So my approach is whole body and while my skin is benefiting tremendously, I'm also never sick anymore and I'm allergy free. If I can help you meet your goals, let me know.

Good luck!

sweat. It helps me when I have a break out. go for a serious run or hot yoga where you just pour. Do it two to three times a week until you're clear. Can take a month or two, but great.
Also, exfoliation to keep the pores as clear as possible and clay-based masks.
Melasma - well, I tried some aveda and origins stuff, but the only thing that worked was something from the dermatologist. Definately not "natural"
Good luck.

I love those spinning face brushes that are on the market now; I bought the Olay version:

I've found that it does a better job of clearing out my pores than just using my hands to wash my face.

Then I use Neostrata Gel Plus AHA 15 at night and I can't recommend this product enough! (no, I don't sell it). You use a pea-sized amt and the bottle lasts me for about 6 months. Good for acne, black heads, wrinkles and melasma.

I have sensitive skin and had problems during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Salicylic acid is good and a good retinol cream. You can mix the retinol cream to make it less harsh and only use it a few times a week. You need to make sure you use sunscreen though. Both of these products will remove the dead/outer layer of skin and improve skin tone as well as fight the breakouts.

Try African Black Soap- its a natural exfoliater and great for clogged pores. I get it from Shea Terra Organics online.

Have you tried steaming your face? Take a pot of not-too-hot water and a bath towel. Lean over with the towel over your head so you're making a tent for the steam to circulate around your face. It should help open up the pores. Follow up with a good cleanser.

Malibu Miracle mask manufactured by Jafra. It contains ingredients like almond meal, barley flour, peppermint & spearmint and works better than anything else I've seen or used to clear up blemishes. Contact me directly for more information.
