We usually rent a condo from lifeisgoodvacationrentals.com when we go to corpus/padre island. we love to stay at Palm Bay Village due to the family beach is down the street less than 2 minutes.
Planning a Galveston trip w/ fam, so we are looking for a 2brdm Condo in Galveston. Looks like most are privately owned. Would really prefer something on the beach, and would be nice if it were somewhat close to Pier 61. Any suggestions?

We usually stay at Islander East. It is on the beach, is very clean and is reasonably priced. I haven't been back since the hurricane, though. It was closed for awhile after the hurricane, and it has since re-opened. I don't know what condition it is in now. It was quite nice before the hurricane, but it was hit pretty hard. Have a great vacation!
Oh, if you want some great mexican food in a little hole in the wall restaurant, try Taco House on Broadway. I think it's around 52nd street, but I could be wrong.
Check out Jamaica beach. But i would warn you that a lot was destroyed during hurricane Ike and it has raised prices. I recommend a hotel along the seawall, everything on the beach is quite pricey.
Check out vrbo.com
It is a web site that features vacation rentals by owner. We have had fantastic luck in renting all types of places, from condos to beach houses accomadating from 2 to 20. They list rentals all over the country and have a large amount of listings. I wouldn't go on vacation without using them for lodgings!
Good luck and have fun!
The San Luis has condos, they are very nice. We have stayed there many times.
