Hi Mamas!

This Santa's helper is looking for a great children's kitchen playset that both my 5 yr old son & 18 mo old daughter can play w/ together. One that has multiple pieces (so they can both have a "piece" to play on at one time - sharing & taking turns is an issue right now!) One that has some automation/sounds, too, like burners making a gurgle noise when a pot is on it or the oven "ding", etc. and w/ gender neutral color. Any suggestions/ones your kids just love (or to stay away from) and where's the best place to get one?

Thanks so much!

This is the one we have and boys love it http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1299 It was the plainest one I could find. I did not want one that made tons of sounds I wanted my kids to use their imaginations. The burner makes noise and the phone makes noise but that's it. They do have others if you want that makes lots of noise.

We have one from Step 2. It's great. We got it when my daughter was 1.5. She (now 5) and my son (3) still play with it on a regular basis, in fact we just moved to London from Connecticut and brought it with us. It has a burner that makes noise when pots are put on it, a telephone and microwave that beep and make noise and a light that can be turned on. Comes with pot, pans, plates, cups, utensils and some food. Great investment that can withstand the constant play. There are a bunch to choose from depending on how much you want to spend. Here is the link. Good Luck!

I used to love the step 2 kitchen Lifestyle Deluxe that is green, 4' wide. The one that costs 219.99. Then a friend got the small wooden kitchen with a big stainless steel bowl and she played with it way more. The sink in the step 2 is too shallow and the wooden play food won't fit in the oven or microwave.
Tuesday morning has a kidkraft razzle dazzle for 69 where my cousin lives.

I have one from Little Tikes that has a grill on one side and a kitchen on the other with a window between. They could both play at the same time. Until I read the whole post though, I was going to tell you not to get it b/c it's annoying not being able to push it up against a wall. I have to say that my 5 year old boy really has outgrown it, so you may want to see how much your son plays with someone else's before you get one. And yes on the storage basket!!

Just adding this bit of trivia: when you get the kitchen, add a storage basket with it because toy kitchens have clutter just like real kitchens do! They'll need an easy place to put the pots, pans, kitchen utensils, food (!), and all the other extras when they're not playing.

We got our twin boys a kidcraft kitchen for Christmas when they were about 15 mo. Within minutes they'd ripped off the oven door. I got a replacement for free, and they ripped it off too. THen they ripped off the dishwasher door. Then the microwave door. I gave up and called the company again and they gave me a full refund, even months later. Oh, and my smaller twin couldn't even walk yet and was able to pull this thing apart. NOT good quality if you ask me.
