I was wondering what was the best product to get for those pesky sweet potato, carrots, green beans, etc...stains on my little girls clothes, it seems to be staining them. I use the Baby ALL for regular washes, but have no clue what to get for those darn stains. Also, tips on how to use the products would be nice, I am new at all of this.

So What Happened?

Thanks all for the great advise!

Okay, I tried to find that new Spray 'N Wash at Target [no luck on any Spray 'N Wash products], ended up getting that Oxi Clean Baby...we will see

The advise about getting disposable bibs was great, I did get some of those...totally forgot about that product.

Baby Oxi Clean always worked for me. For real stubborn stains I'd make a paste out of it and let it sit for just a little while before washing. I stopped using Dreft and other baby detergents when my son was around six months old since his skin was not sensitive and I felt like his clothes just were not getting clean using baby detergents. Good luck.

As with other posters...I prefer Oxy Clean in the spray bottle over the rest. I use it on the clothes while I am washing a load of darks and let it sit there until I am ready to do the next load(after rubbing the fabric together with my knuckles) I have tried the spray and wash and the Clorox "oxy clean" and nothing has gotten my baby messes out quite so well. Even Chocolate from my almost 3 yr. old.
As for bibs, Walmart sells the wipeable ones in dark colors. They can easily be wiped off or if too dirty I throw them in the sink with the sippy cups. These are NOT the plastic kind. They are made of a rubbery substance and have a soft fiber backing. Target carries some like this too. The waterproof ones work ok too, but now that I have a toddler I need the bigger ones.

Shout works pretty well. But I have recently stopped using harsh chemicals when someone told me it takes 25 washes to wash out the phosphates used in detergents. Think about that going into your skin - and we wonder why cancer and so many epidemic syndromes are on the rise? I am switching now to all organic dish washing and laundry soaps. And I have recently switched to all organic shampoo/conditioner. I really think its chemicals that are causing us to age and get certain diseases. I can recall attempting to get stains out of my childs bibs some time ago - and even shout wouldn't work. Oxyclean is supposed to be good -- but chemicals again. If you are able, disposable bibs work wonders!!!!!!!!! I couldn't live without them.

OxyClean for Baby is the best stuff ever invented!!! I have only been able to find it at Target. You mix it with hot water and soak the clothes.

Hi Angie!
A really great, safe alternative to bleach and harsh chemicals is Ivory Soap flakes. This is also a dry cleaner's secret- you can use it occasionally to wash your dry clean only! It's taken out the carrot stains in my son's bibs! Good luck!

I use Totally Toddler. They have a baby one, but I can't remember the name. It's in the baby section of Wal-Mart. It's a white spray bottle with pink writing and a pink top. It's pretty good.

I love the Spray and Wash Dual Power liquid stain remover. It's gotten out a lot of stains that shout and oxi clean didn't get out for me. It's a little on the expensive side because I can use almost a whole bottle for one washing day. It's like water (no thickness to it) so it comes out fast. My 7 year old is very very messy and I'm always having to clean stains off her clothes. I do know that if you buy it and are not satisfied, there's a form on the spray and wash website that you can fill out and they will send you your money back supposedly. I've not ever used it cause I'm very pleased with the product. Good luck! :-)

Angie,

Oxiclean is the best solution I have found for stains. Get the spray kind and spray it on. You will need to scrub it between your knuckles to get hard stains out. I let it set for 5 - 10 minutes before I wash as normal. I would suggest to rewash these items once with your baby detergeant before wear.

Good luck!

I use both Amway Prewash or Spray and Wash (whichever one I happen to grab first.) Both work pretty well and I've managed to get stains out of most the baby clothes. I also use the shout wipes when traveling which do good. For stains on white clothes that won't go away I also use the clorox bleach pen.

I have 3 little ones and they are messy(all girls). What I use is clorox bleach for colors. I do a pre soak with just the clorax and than I do a regular wash with dreft or tide for cold water for the older ones. It works on most of the stains the only stain I havent figured out how to get out is chocolate ice cream. If the stain doesn't come out the first time I have an old toothbrush that I use on the clothes with some of the clorox. I also found liquid dish washing detergent helps on some stains to. I also carry the tide pen with me and does well on stains. I also use the bibsters cause it less work for me to do. I do enough laundry don't need to worry about the bibs.

I use Spray and Wash in the green bottle. I can even treat stains days after they happen ...if I forgot about them....and they come out. I usually use an old toothbrush or I know this sounds kinda gross but I wash my hands well and scrub w/ my nails a little on the ones that wont come off w/ the toothbrush. Ive found if you shut the lid to the washer and scrub on top of it it seems to get more stains out than doing it on the counter or table did.

Hi Angie,

I have a 9 month old daughter and was having the same problem. For a while I even took her clothes off of her to feed her because it was ruining her clothes. The answer is BIZ! I start my washing machine, warm or hot water works best, put the setting on low water level. Let the water start moving put in her clothes and let it agitate for a few minutes. Then I turn the machine off and let them soak. You can decide how long. When I get ready to wash them, I raise the water level (change temp to cold) and add the detergent. I have had some stains that I had to do this twice. But it works. Besure to look at the clothes good before you put them in the dryer. Once they've been in the dryer the stain is pretty much set in.

Good Luck, S.
