Help moms! My youngest is 18 months old, and I am desperate to lose this "baby" weight, or excess belly fat. I was underweight when I got pregnant, gained 37 lbs during the pregnancy. I didnt lose much right away but didnt think much of it since Im in my 30's etc. Well the last few months I've put on even more weight, and most if it's around my middle. I am MISERABLE. I dont consider myself a bad eater, not the healthiest, but not a junk food eater etc. I read an article on "the belly fat cure" and it sounds simple, limiting yourself to no more then 15 grams sugar, 6 servings of good carbs a day and I am ready to give it a shot! Has anyone tried this and did it work for you? Or can anyone suggest other tips. I'm really not into joining a gym or anything like that, but of course become more active is in my plans. Any advice and tips are welcomed. I've never been so uncomfortable with myself! And I've never really had a weight issue so Im at a loss! Thanks in advance :)

So What Happened?

I am no longer on a diet, I will have to try again later :) But I did lose 7 lbs in 10 days on the south beach. My husband is still on it and has lost 18 lbs. I do plan on trying again in the future when I am able to!!

Hi S.,

I paid $400 for a 12 week internet coaching program with Jorge Cruise. It was a total scam. The "lose 4-9 pounds a week" claim is BS. I lost about 3 pounds and 1/2 inch in the ten weeks I've been on his program. I recommend just reserving the book at the library if you are interested, and not giving any money to this so-called health guru that has absolutely no health, medical or nutritional credentials. The gist of the program is limiting your sugar and carbs to 15 grams of sugar and 6 servings of carbs a day.

I do have an answer to your weight issue. I work with the Shaklee corporation and we have a Weight management program that is guaranteed to work. You will loose inches before you loose pounds because it is a program that keeps your muscle intact while loosing pounds. Look it up at livingwithsolutions.com
Good Luck

S., I can tell you first hand, that I have been on a low "carb" diet, and it has worked. Honestly, it's not a diet, more like a life style change. I don't pay attention to the calories, however I do pay attention to the carbs. For the first two weeks, try to limit your carbs to about 15 to 20 grams per day. The carbs refer to sugar, including those in bread, pasta, fruits.....You can eat as much green vegetables (stay away from sweet veggies like carrots ...) for the first two weeks. You can also eat proteins, including cheeses.... It works. I had the "fat back" and "fat stomach". It has melted it away. I haven't started going to the gym like I need to, however I do look good (I must say. :)) To better educate yourself on what I'm referring to: Check out http://community.atkins.com/index.jsp

Hi S.! I am not familiar with this particular diet, but I do know that in order to lose weight, you have to burn off more calories than you take in. So if you take a look at what you are eating on a daily basis, you can see where you could cut some of those calories. Don't starve yourself, but you can replace those high caloric "sugary" foods with more wholesome foods. Personally, following any particular "diet" would get complicated and most likey would make you rebound as soon as you go back to eating what you did before you started the diet. Just try changing some of the types of foods you eat, eat smaller portions, and try to become more active. I know, I have an 18 month old too and just carrying him around (29 lbs!)is a work-out and a half!!

Good luck and I wish you the best!

With regards to the two weeks without carbs, I did it with Atkins 4 years ago. The result? An ulcer, due to extreme, sudden stomach acid increase, and gall bladder surgery.
Worst thing I could have ever done to my body.

I can understand reducing carbs, but not cutting them out. You need energy. Just my 2 cents. =)

Any low cal diet will work short term. But there are two major problems.
1. Can you maintain the diet long-term?
2. You can't choose where the fat comes off/you can't spot reduce. If your fat leaves your belly first, hooray! But the place the fat comes off won't correspond with what kind of diet you're on.
Good luck!
