Belly Bands

Hello. I have heard about supportive Belly Bands and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions of where to get them. I've found the ones that will allow you to wear jeans longer into your pregnancy and cover the space between the bottom of your t-shirts and the tops of pants but I'm looking for ones that will have more support so I can wear them to the gym. I've been jogging and I think it's time to get some extra support for my growing belly. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi A.- You should be able to get a Belly Band at any Maternity shop. I got one a few years back at Motherhood Maternity. Don't know if those stores are still around, but another maternity store should carry them. Good luck! C. M.

If you're looking for support, a belt might be better. They do have some that go over your shoulders for added support. That might work better for jogging. I got my belt at Motherhood this time and do not like it nearly as well as the one I had before. I don't remember the brand of my first, or I'd be buying one. The ends don't stay in place well, although it does offer good support. It's just not nearly as comfortable as my prior one. Congratulations on your little one!

I just bought mine at motherhood. It does seem to help a bit, my hips are the trouble. It is a bit irritating I have to say! I wear two shirts I tuck one in put the belt on and then my regular shirt over it. I do workout but no jogging my hips would fall right off!

I have heard you can get them at a medical supply store as well, but I think they are more expensive.

Good Luck!

Hi A.,

We have several levels of support bands at Bosom Buddies (Westminster & Lone Tree) and on the website (www.bosombuddies.com).

A.,

congrats to you on this, your 1st pregnancy!
Though you may find the above mentioned bands at most specialty maternity stores, a good supportive cloth binder w/elastic or brace will provide extra support while exercising, these products may be hot and a little itcy; as a 2nd time mom in her 30's and also a pregnant female, may i make a suggestion as a health care professional? I am a long time runner, but jogging becomes uncomfortable and hard on the joints, esp. Into the 3rd trimester. Cross-training may be a better option if you belong to a club (try those activities which aren't as jarring to your body), and, the best kept secret is... Swimming!!! I am not a swimmer, but have been amazed at what a 10 minute dip in the pool will do for the joints and how incredibly relaxed you will feel afterwards!
Anyway, good luck w/your pregnancy and good health to you!!

As a doula, I have heard mixed responses about these from my clients. Some love them, others say they didn't help at all. They all got them at Motherhood. Just listen to your body, if jogging is still uncomfortable with the band, try a different form of exercise, like swimming or yoga. Congratulations on your baby and let me know if you need anything or have more questions!
