I am pregnant with my third child a little girl. I am a single mother of a 5 and half year old son and a 6 and half year old daughter.
I have only gained 6 pounds with this pregnancy and we did a sono two weeks ago and the baby looks just fine and weighs about 5 pounds 10 ounces. The doctor is doing another sono this coming Tuesday and then going to decide when to induce from there. I am currently 35 weeks I have been sick the whole pregnancy and have only gained the weight since June. The baby is doing okay but for the health reasons of me and the baby if Im not gaining and she hasnt gained since two weeks ago then he will dwfinanlty induce. I am fine with this decision something just doesnt seem just right (This has been my worst pregnancy my daughter has epilepsy and my son has adhd) so we are also looking at this baby coming early if she hasnt gained any. I totally trust my ob. I haven't been induced scheduled wise and Im wanting to hear some experiences from any moms out there. I never have made it to my due date anyhow.

My son was born at 35 weeks and was 6 lbs. 9 ounces. My daughter was a week early and weighed 7 lbs 9.5 ounces.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for all the advice! It helps! I went to my ob Tuesday had another ultrasound done and the baby is weighing 6 lbs 10 oz. At 34 weeks and 1 day. My son who is 5 and half was born at 35 weeks and weighed 6 lbs 9 oz so the doctor is watching things closely and he said that he will see me the next two weeks once a week and if the baby isn't born by Sept. 22 he will do another sono and induce me. He is afraid that a big baby might end up with me getting a c-section and with this being my last one I prefer not if at all possible.
Thanks everyone! Im sure ill be asking another question soon!
Just wanted to re update!
I had a sono done Tuesday the 22nd and the baby weighs 8 lbs. 6 oz. and Im dialted to a 4 if the baby doesn't come by next tuesday he will induce tuesday or wed due to the babys size.

I am one of the older mama's (47 and pass for 35-) here that are "so not educated as to having and raising a child....as some new mama's seem to think" LOL...It is amazing that some of us have been able to even have and raise a child without some of the knowledge pounced upon us from some moms who are younger than us and know EVERYTHING. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Our kids have survived and thrived.... Who would have thought???? Keep in mind that NO ONE is perfect..... HOWEVER.....

My experience of being induced was perfect. I was 33. I only have 1 child, now 14. I went to the hospital by 7am, got a dose of pitocin, not too long afterwards, my ob broke the water, things progressed nicely and I had a beautiful baby girl with no issues.

I don't know your specific situation nor am I a medical consultant.. All I can say is that induction went very well for me. I got my epidural when expected and all went smoothly.

Believe me, issues will hit as the children get older and all the books you read go out the window....you will soon laugh at all the knowledge you think you have.

You already know this since this is not your first baby. It is almost comical to hear some advice on here (Mamasource).

Just be normal, not radical on your issues and you (and your family) will be fine. Don't sweat the small stuff and do what is right for you and your family. No pressures from anyone else. You know you the best.

Go with your gut and I sincerely wish the best for you and your family.

I was induced with both of my kids. The first because he was late and large. That was probably the hardest because I did NOT get an epidural and it was 11 hours of labor and he was 9lbs 5 ounces. So, I was seriously tired at the end of it all.

I was induced for the 2nd baby because she also appeared to be on the large size. I did get an epidural with her and the whole thing was a dream. I got induced at 7, had epidural at 9 and she was here at 11:00 AM. Awesome experience.

I was just reading about this somewhere (but I don't remember where). One of the reasons to induce is if the baby has stopped growing. This can be caused by the placenta not giving the baby all the nutrients it needs, which can be fatal. If your doc is concerned about this then I would be too. That's part of the reason they start monitering us so closely at the end is to watch for any problems like this. I was induced at 38 1/2 weeks with my son b/c he was already a good size, and I'd been dilating for almost 2 weeks already. I did end up with a c/s b/c his head was getting stuck in my pelvic bone, and labor stopped progressing (I never got past 4 1/2 cm after all day of labor and being on pitocin). I think the most important thing is that you have a healthy baby in the end...no matter how he/she gets here! If you trust your doc, then just talk with him openly about everything, and ask any questions/concerns you have about inducing. Good luck!

Hey E.,
I was induced also with my first and only son (8 months). He came two weeks early because he and I were the opposite of you and your daughter...gigantuan. He was weighing 8 lbs (2 weeks early) and I was swollen beyond recognition! I'm small framed so there was no way an 8 lb baby was coming out of me! I know how you feel, it seems horribly unnatural, but when you're as sick as you are, as long as the baby is healthy then go for it and don't feel bad, the doctor wouldn't give you the option if it was going to hurt one of you. They tried this medicine to start some dialating (before they could give me Pitocen), but I have a family history of C sections, so I pretty much knew it was going to end in that anyway, which it did. Everything turned out fine and I have a perfect and healthy baby boy! Congratulations on your baby girl!!!!

I think it is so routine now that it isn't a big deal. Since it is your 3rd, it will hopefully progress fine. Sometimes you have to worry about your body not being ready and the induction failing and ending up with a c section. It sounds like your baby might need to be outside the womb to get some more nutrition to gain weight. I hope everything goes well. Best wishes and keep us posted.

I was induced with my first and only son (so far) and it went really well. I got to the hospital at 7, got my Pitocin drip at 7:30, my water broke on it's own at around 9:30, I decided to do an epidural around 1 and my son was born at 7:09. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I didn't medically have to be induced, my doctor left the decision up to me. If I let Mother Nature take it's course I could deliver during Spring Break, when my doctor would be on vacation. I persoanlly didn't want to have another doctor deliver my child, so my husband and I both decided to be induced the next day. I was due on March 5th, he was born March 6th.

For me, it was a great experience and I have nothing negative to say about it.

I was induced on January 12th of this year. I was 39 weeks with my first child. I was already dilated to a 4 when I got to the hospital. I was given Pitocin at 7:30am and had my beautiful little girl at 11:30am. I had a great experience with my induction & I would do it again. You have maternal instincts for a reason though. If you feel that something isn't right, maybe you should have a second opinion. Moms do know better than doctors sometimes! I think most OBs would like to make it to 37 weeks, but I agree with the other mom that responded that they would be able to better care for your baby outside of the womb, and I think you're far enough along that your baby wouldn't be in additional danger. Please keep us updated and good luck...everything will be ok!
