Bed Wetting - Middletown,NY

My son is almost 6 and has gone years without having any wetting accidents, that was until this weekend. He wakes up between 2:00 -6:00 am wet to his pants, but not enough to wet the bed. He does not drink a lot of fluids during the day, and does go to the bathroom before bed. Should I be concerned since it just started or is this normal for this age? Thank you!

What can I do next?

Did he just go through a major growth spurt? That can cause kids to suddenly lose control.
Other possibilities - is he worried about something? If it continue more than a few days, have him checked out by his doctor - it can be an early sign for the development of diabetes.

He may have just been over tired and sleeping so deeply that he just couldn't get himself awake in time. Since he wet only his pants and didn't flood the bed the sensation of "going" woke him up. I wouldn't be concerned unless it happens repeatedly.

It sounds like he may have a bladder infection starting up. Give him some Cranberry juice drinks, I like Great Value Cranberry Black Cherry.

It strips the cells off and helps them to get out of the bladder. This might help but if it's an infection he may need a doc.

I'd make sure he's drinking lots of water too. He may be dehydrated and then he leaks a bit. He needs fluids in his bladder to feel the urge to pee.

My daughter who is 18 now did that off and on from like 6-10 I think. I did take her to the MD. Once she had a UTI and the other times she was just really tired. I would take him to his pediatrician have him checked out but insist on a urine test. Some times they by pass it thinking if theres no fever or burning or any other UTI symptoms theres nothing going on, but some people have an infection and have no other symptoms other than bed wetting or frequency. Good Luck!

The typical bedwetting pattern is a child who is never totally dry at night, they might have a dry night here and there but are wet most nights. Your son's bedwetting is not typical. I would take him to the dr for an evaluation just to be on the safe side.
