My oldest son is 6-1/2 and still wets his ____@____.com doesn't want to wear "overnight pull-ups", but when he doesn't wear them he wakes up wet. My 3yr old who is potty trained also wears the pull-ups @ night, but he's always dry in the morning. My oldest says he doesn't feel when he's got to go. My husband says we need to get him a new mattress which i understand we should, but when is it going to stop???

What can I do next?

I went through this with both my daughter & son.  After many trying methods such as stop all liquids, waking up several times to go potty and rewards for dry nights.  It was quite frustrating and I was running out of patience.  I finally talked to our pediatrician and we decided on medication.  We did not experience any side effects with either child.  I can't recall the name of the medciation but it was a tiny red pill and we used it for a small period of time.  In lammens terms, the little light bulb that should turn on when they have the sensation just wasn't turning on at night.  We were all very relieved when the bed wetting stopped.  We were washing and changing sheets practically every night.  My only regret was not discussing the situation sooner with the pediatrician.  I wish you and your son the best in resolving this issue.

My oldest is only four so I can only give you advice from what I've done with my 3 & 4 year old. I got plastic sheets!!! I got mine from Walmart. I just put the regular sheets over them. Then, when there is an "accident," especially since he is 6 years old, have him take responsibility of the clean up. Take off the sheets, put the dirty ones in the designated place (washing machine or bathroom sink/tub), wipe down the plastic sheets, and put on a new sheet. I do have to help my little ones a lot more though with these tasks but they see all the work that is involved with bed wetting. Good luck! Hope things will turn out better soon! My mom said I took a long time too but I'm okay now. ;) lol

there is a device out there that you attach near their ear and to the underwear. the second it feels wet the buzzer rings in their ear and wakes them up. i have heard of a number of people who have used it and have gotten 1005 results in like a week. It does not hurt the child at all it is just like an alarm clock going off in their ear.

I have a bed wetter and I did a ton of research, and a big cause of bedwetting is dairy allergies!! I wasn't too sure that was the cause until I cut all dairy out of his diet, and he stopped wetting the bed. He rarely wets the bed anymore, but occasionally he will, and when I go back through his day, I realize he accidentally had dairy.

Do some research... it is fascinating stuff. :)

I am having this same problem with my 3 year old. He has never had an accident at night. Now all of a sudden he has had 2 in the last week. H ewas in my bed too. I have a tempurpedic mattress (all spongy foam). It is totally ruined. He refuses to wear the night time diapers too. My sister's son wears them and pees right through them. When I asked my son why he was peeing in bed he told me that sometimes he just has to go and he doesn't know that he is going in bed. He doesn't even wake up. Let me know if you find out how to handle this. I am so frustrated.

This is a very difficult subject. I was told by our family Pediatrician that bed wetting is hereditary. My husband's siblings were all bed wetters. I tried everything from cutting liquids at 6 pm to diabetes testing, kidney testing and even therapy. Unfortunately some kids will outgrow this on their own time. I know it's frustrating, but keep trying the pull-ups at night and cut the liquids as much as you can in the evening. My child was almost 14 when she finally stopped.
