I was wondering if anybody can give me some feedback on this. I am pregnant and have been really wanting to dye my hair to cover these ugly greys that i have. My ob said it was fine but yet i'm still hesitant, maybe nervous is the word since i did have a hard pregnancy in the beginning and have been on medications and still am. I dont have a clue about hair salons in the aurora area. I was wondering if any of you dyed your hair while pregnant and if so where did you go? I would like to go to someone that is good, yet not expensive and that will listen to my needs and concerns. Thanks

What can I do next?

I colored my hair when i was pregnant. I had concerns also and my hairdresser told me what chemical in the hair dyes of years ago that were bad but are no longer in the dyes. Unfortunately she is in Texas and only comes in every 8 weeks to take appointments and won't be back until the end of May. I never had any problems and my baby is very healthy and smart.

Hi Lisa!! Congrats on your pregnancy first of all. How wonderful, and nervewracking it is to be a first time mom isn't it. I am a stylist/colourist...and as long as your doctor is saying it is okay then don't worry about it as far as affecting your health or your baby's. I have two kids and worked with colour all day long and they are perfectly fine. Many women choose to colur during pregnancy and theeir hair is fine. However, what I wll tell you is this...make sure that you get a test strand, some of us (including myself have issues with colour taking on our hair very strangely during pregnancy due to all of the hormonal changes, i.e. off or ugly colour, not at all,or sometimes only in parts, as well as having the formulation work fine for normal touch ups like the first three times and then it will work improperly due to hormonal surges. If you would like, I work currently for Perfect Hair and Day Spa in Naperville (by the Route 59 train Station), I'd love to have a complimentary consultation with you about various options for colouring during pregnancy. I could go on and on about things, so it is much better to talk it over in person. My name is A., and the number is ###-###-####. I currently work Tuesdays 10-5:30, Fridays noon-7, and Saterdays 10-4. All over colour starts at $40. In the mean time if you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Hope this helps.

Hi Lisa
I have been a hairstylist for about 11 years and I have heard both sides of the argument. I personally don't believe anything bad can happen, and have never seen any bad side effects. I have colored alot of pregnant ladies hair, myself included. People argue that the color will soak into your scalp getting into your blood stream, thereby affecting the baby. MY argument against that was always that if that is true, then a pregnant hairstylist must not do color or perms on any clients while she is pregnant herself because the product gets on our hands also, getting into our bloodstream the same way. So that never made any sense to me. Color your hair...you will be fine!

I was 38 with my first child and 41 with my second child. Needless to say with gray hair too. I dyed my hair every six weeks while pregnant with both children. I used several salons.
I spoke with my doctor who said it would not hurt the baby.

I dyed my hair 3 times while I was pregnant. I don't think it is considered to be harmful anymore. I went to Fantastic Sams in North Aurora, in the strip mall at the corner of Oak & Randall. It looks scary if you are used to going to someplace nice like Mario Tricoci, but they all do a really good job and you don't need to spend a lot of money.

Hello Lisa! They use to say that you should not dye your hair or get a perm when pregnant, but now, I believe that dying your hair is ok. If you OB is saying it is ok, I am sure it is. I dont know of anyone right now that is really good and not to expensive. The last time I got my hair done, I went to Fantastic Sams close to my house and they did a great job and are not that expensive.
