Silly question --- often (sometimes more often than not) our bathroom has an odor of perm solution. It smells like it's coming from the drain in the sink - it's strong and we cant figure it out ..... anyone have anything similar??? Thanks ....

What can I do next?

Put baking soda and white vinegar down the drain. This will help clean it out. You may have to use a snake to clean out the gunky build up.

It's the crud in your drain.
It needs to be cleaned out.
It will be extremely gross.
You can get a little hand snake at the hardware store for a few bucks.

the sulfur and sulfites in the perm solution are in the same family as those in some different mold-funks that an grow in the bathroom so they smell similar. Pouring bleach down is effective now and will take care of it but do the bleach thing too much and you will need to replace your pipes. If it happens regularly you will want to find something that is safe and meant for pipes.

Could be a build up of lots of gunk in there. It gets pretty rank.

Take out the stopper and use a flashlight to look down there.

At the hardware store they sell these hook things you can use to pull that stuff out.

Some times, I pour Boiling water down there to kind of break it up. It is disgusting.
