Bathing Suit Care?

Hi mamas,

My son has swimming lessons Monday-Friday for 2 weeks starting today. What do you recommend for bathing suit care? I'm thinking rinsing it every night and washing it at the end of the week would be fine, but I'm not a pool person and not familiar with wear and tear.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

That sounds very reasonable.

That works, but wash by hand or the hand wash cycle in the machine, and never ever put it in the dryer. Laying it flat to dry will help prevent any streching of the elastic (probably more of an issue for girls suits) or line dry it. You might also want to pick up 2nd one just in case...

Hi P.
Yes rinse at night and wash once a week.
Hand wash .I got lazy and started to put the suits in the washing machine and they were stretched and ruined in no time.

Depends...are he just wearing it for the lessons (1 hour or so) and then changing? If so, what you have proposed is fine. If he is wearing it for the lesson and it is prolonged (several hours or more) and/or splashing around at home (like in the sprinkler, small pool, etc) you may want to wash it at least once in the middle of the week.

I suggest you rinse it and hang it inside to dry...the sun will fade it w/ prolonged exposure.

We just got a pool this year and it is a really good idea to rinse them out after every swim to get the chlorine out of the fabric.
Laundering once per week should be OK, too.

If I'm doing an appropriate load sooner, I throw them in with the towels, etc.

How old? When my kids were under 16 I just didn't care because they outgrew them long before they would fall apart. :)

With my own suits I rinse them after every use and hang them to dry. So far even mine have lasted years.

Washing machines are not kind to swim suits.

I rinse with vinegar and water and hang to dry. I read somewhere that the vinegar helps them not to fade from the chlorine.
