How often should you bathe a 6 month old? Is twice a week not enough? I don't really feel like she needs it every night, but I am also trying to get a more consistent evening routine to help with sleep. How often before her sleep time is good for a bath?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks gals! I am doing the every night thing--sometimes with or without soap. Her skin is doing great, and sleep has gotten better! YEAH! I think it has helped her routine and getting ready for bed. :)

When my son was that age, I gave a warm bath every night, but with just plain water and no soap/shampoo except once a week. I did it just for routine's sake, and he loved bath time. Now, it just helps him wind down before bed now that he is a very active toddler. I always bathe him right before bed as its part of the sleep routine. Hope this helps!

I have 2 children - 2.5years and 10 months old. I've always given them a bath at least every other day, if not everyday for routine's sake and it probably makes them feel good. I don't think bathing and hair washing everyday is necessary, especially for an infant, but since I do I make sure I lotion them up after bath. I definitely wouldn't bathe everyday if they had sensitive skin.

2 or nights a weeks is plenty. if you want to establish a bed time routine it doesn't really have to involve a bath. just start whatever you're gonna do at the same time and stick with it...diaper change, bottle, story, cuddles and bed. jsut start a little earlier if it's bath night and do the bath 1st. consistancy is the key and just make sure that it your routine is relaxing and comfortable for the baby and you.

I think twice a week is fine. My kids got one sometimes only once a week (or even less sometimes), since they have really dry, sensitive skin. During dry winter weather it had to be less. In the hot summer, I did it more frequently to wash off the sweat of the day. I think twice a week is plenty.

my son started getting a bath every night when he started feeding himself. about 7 months old. he was so messy after he ate supper that he needed the bath. i bathe him right after we eat at about five or five thirty, and then get him all ready for bed with a new diaper and pj's. i let him play until about six, then he has a cup with his formula in it and goes to bed between six and six thirty. i think if he is clean you dont need to bathe him, but at six months old, it is only a matter of time until he needs to be hosed off after dinner time.

As long as your baby isn't dirty and her diaper area is kept clean, twice a week is fine. If you want to get a bedtime routine in place, give her a bath every night. Just make sure you use lotion and powder to keep her skin from drying out!

When my oldest was that age, it was at least every other night. For routine's sake, he got a massage (feet, legs, belly, arms) every night before bed, then pajamas and milk. Bath helps a restless child get ready for bed, but other routines can be done on a nightly basis if you don't think a daily bath is necessary. I say, follow those motherly instincts, you know your baby better than anyone, and you'll know when it's time to switch over to every night baths. It's almost impossible to avoid a daily bath when a child is wearing sweet peas and ketchup for a hat; those days will come, and you'll be ready for them :)

I bathed my daughter every night. I know some people don't see the need for that, but I bath every day myself, and felt like she needed it too. Sometimes it was just a sponge bath, but still every night. It developed a night time routine and she never was bothered by a bath either. Where as I saw some of my nieces and nephews fight like crazy to get a bath as they got a little older, mine never did. When she was that little I did use a lot of baby lotion on her after here bath though. She never had a problem with dry skin or anything else. I kinda just felt like her skin got conditioned to the routine as well as she did and she slept a lot better after her bath too. I guess its more or less up to the individual how often you bath them and to the babys skin as to how it reacts to the bathing.
