About a week ago my daughter fell in the bathtub even though we have told her repeatedly not to stand up in the tub...she did anyway. So when she fell half of her face went under water and scared her. I was right there and helped her up but the damage was done. But now when I try to give her a bath she is still okay with the bath itself but when I try to wash her hair she won't have anything to do with it. She fights and screams and does everything she can to avoid the situation. How can I get her used to it again...she has never been afraid of the water. I hope someone can help me get my water bug back!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to everyone for their advice. I went and bought my daughter some goggles like someone had suggested and Emma loves them. She thinks she is cool with them on and has learned that if she puts her face in the water she can still see under water. I am so glad bath time is easier! Thanks again everyone!

I don't have any good advice but my daughter just started doing the same thing as well. She didn't have a fall but accidently on vacation my mom was giving her a bath with what she thought was baby wash and it ended up being my dad's shampoo in the wrong bottle! She screamed and cried horribly and ever since has been freaking out when we go to wash her hair. Good Luck, I bet it will just be time that ultimately heals the fear.

You could try a new bathmat in the tub. They sell ones with Elmo, Dora and a lot of other ones for kids. That and a new bath toy might distract her enough. You can also skip hair washing once and just let her play. Good luck.

My daughter hated getting her hair washed as well. Loved the bath, but hated water running down her face. So I just switched to washing her hair in the kitchen sink. She'd lay on her back and I'd just use the faucet/sprayer to wash. We did that until she was about 4 and learned to like water on her face (thank you swim lessons!)

Good luck,
J.

This may not be a throw-back to the bathtub scare...she may just be going through part of her terrible twos---hating to get her hair washed! It's pretty normal, just be firm, and kind, and as fast as you can! LOL! Try getting one of those hose sprayers that hook up to your bathtub faucet. It might fascinate her long enough to get the job done, and would probably be easier than trying to rinse her hair with a cup, or lay her down to rinse it.

Good luck! We've all been there!

My son loves to "swim" in the bath tub w/ goggles and go "diving" for marbles... perhaps making a game out of bath time will ease your daughters fear if it's fun and /or at her own pace. Good luck!

Hi! I am currently a nanny for two beautiful children, and the two year old little girl is the same way at bath time! What I have done with her is telling her to look up really high while I pour the water over her head, and so far it has worked! She is a very stubborn child, but does well with compliments. The whole time she is looking at the celieng, just giving her compliments like "Allie you are such a good girl!" and telling her "Almost done!" she has come to an understanding that when she looks up, the water doesnt get in her eyes, plus she get free compliments! IT may wouk for your little one!

I don't know how you wash her hair, rinsing with a cup or lying her down. I rinse with a cup, and tell my kids to look way up high in the sky then I pour the rinse water so it goes towards the back of their heads. You might also buy her a small pair of swim goggles. They can be fun plus keep water and shampoo out of her eyes. Swim Lessons might help get her back to being comfortable with getting water in her face. My 2yr old daughter would never move around in the bathtub until we just took her to a pool now she likes to move around and is brave enough to get on her tummy and lay down and pretend she is swimming (with shallow water) Good Luck----J.
