Baptism in Montgomery/Oswego Area

My daughter is 2 months old and I would like to have her baptized. My husband and I recently moved to the area and aren't members of a church yet. My husband grew up going to church regularly, but I had gone only a couple times a year so I'm a little lost here. Do we have to be a member of a church to have her baptized or do churches do it for anyone? I'm a FTM, so I'm not sure what a church would require in order to do a baptism (classes, membership, etc). It's important to us and our families that she is baptized, but I'm hoping to find a little guidance here on what I need to do. I should probably mention that we are Lutheran.

What can I do next?

New Song Church, in Aurora (Oswego school district) would be a great place to baptize your daughter. It is a lutheran church. The website is www.newsongchurch.net If you click on about us, it gives baptism information. God bless.

I see that you are Lutheran. My husband is Catholic and I'm Lutheran, but we've been going to Oswego Presbyterian Church and love it! I'm not sure of the requirements for baptism, but here is there website: http://www.opchurch.org/.
Pastor Terry is awesome and they do some great things for the little ones. My oldest attended 2 years of preschool there and my youngest is enrolled there now. Best of luck in your search :)

We had our daughter baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Orland Park. (It's located near Orland Square Mall - you can see the church steeple from the mall parking lot.) My husband and I were married there too. We are not members of the church and we never were. We had to have a meeting with the pastor to go over what the ceremony entailed. We gave a donation to the church for letting us use the church and for all they did for the baptism. If you don't mind driving to Orland Park, Pastor Ledogar is absolutely fantastic.

A friend of mine had their daughter baptized at St. John's Lutheran in Joliet (located on Rte 30 near the Louis-Joliet Mall). They had to become members there and they had to go through 6 weeks of classes in order to have her baptized in their church.

There is a great Lutheran church in Naperville. A lot of people from Oswego, and other surrounding towns go there. Very open and friendly. Alleluia! Lutheran on 103rd and Rt. 59. It is east of Rt. 59 by about a mile.

Definately worth a try! Lots of family activites, if you are interested in that. Modern and traditional services. Great way to meet people when you are new to the area.
Good luck!!

hey J C
i live in the oswego area and also want to have my child baptized. i looked into having her baptized at Our Lady of Mercy on Eola off of Ogden. they said i have to be a member ( attend a new member meeting which is held once a month at the end of the month )and also attend a baptism class before we can even talk about dates that we can have her baptized. also remember to that some churches don't baptize during lent which starts on Feb. 17th. Easter isn't until the first week of April. do a search of churches in your area and most of them should have a website to look up the info. good luck

I'm not sure what denomination you are but if you are catholic you can join a catholic church and have her baptized.
