Check around noon. If its going to go through today, it will be back in the 'pending' section. If it has a hold on it, it will stay in pending until the hold is released. I would let it go for a few hours, but not past noon.

For those of you that check your bank info online most everyday, ... Have you ever checked after making a deposit, and the deposit is there, listed as pending, but then the next morning, POOF it's gone?! I'm so irked. They told me that sometimes the computer can't read the deposit and that it's kicked out. But that was just a pat answer off the top of her head. She didn't promise to look for the deposit. She just said it will "more than likely" show up today. WHAT? Should I just let this go and forget about it for the day? This missing deposit leaves 17 dollars in my account today.
Casey, my deposit was not from a credit card. That was made the day before and because I was having a hard time making ends meet while waiting for daycare parents to pay (late). This deposit was the late parents payment. You are RIGHT. I sent the last 125 for my van payment which was 448 per month and I added a 5 dollar late fee. So I think I am DONE. Now the next thing I do is work on building up that account a little bit. But the sad truth is, each family in my care represents around 500 per month in payments. If just one family loses a job or gets laid off, then I won't be able to save money. I love what I do. But it's not like getting a paycheck that so many take for granted.
Thank you everyone. I do have the deposit slip and they did give me the credit until it's fixed and she said that she would make sure to take care of it when they deposit and then I go over in the other direction.
You know what? I didn't know that this could even happen. I usually throw my deposit slips in a drawer. But sometimes I've thrown them out after seeing them go into the bank. I figured, pending or not, it didn't much matter at that point. I'm glad I was too tired to do laundry last night. I found the receipt in my pocket in the laundry set to go in next.

Bummer! I have had that happen before. Thankfully when I deposited the check, got a receipt with a small copy of the check. I waited for 2 stinking weeks to get that money back in my account. I was so mad, but imagine all of the nonsense they deal with from people trying to pull a fast one. Stay on them or they will take their time! Good luck.
Well, your deposit was from a cash advance from a credit card I suppose. I would have just transferred from savings and given it another 24 hours to show up and save the hassle of going into the bank. You know what they say about savings....it is good to have it in emergencies! $7 or $17...which ever it was is never an option for me. Too risky.
Ok, deposits go through a MICR code reader just like a check. The numbers at the bottom of your deposit slips are what it reads. Some times if the numbers are mis read by the code reader, then it will kick the deposit back out. They have people working in that specific department that will find the encoding error and fix it.
If you hand filled one out and someone encoded it wrong then this will happen. Or if your pre encoded deposit slips are old and crinkled. It should show back up today, usually these get priority to get fixed and you see them back in around the noon hour. It sucks but you should see it soon. Check back before they close. The people that are in the Deposit Ops department usually will check and make sure that there are no NSF's caused by the deposit reading error.
Can you tell I worked at a bank/credit union for ten years?
I had that happen to me, but 21 years ago at a small local bank, before all the technology. And you know how you are told to hold on to your deposit slip? I found out that it's really just a piece of paper until THEY find THEIR mistake!
If the deposit was a large one, the bank will sometimes hold it for a number of days before they let it go through. We had that happen this summer in the middle of buying a house. Seems so unfair to me. It's our money!
I had that happen once. I called and gave them the transaction number from my deposit slip and my bank gave me a temporary credit for the amount of the deposit immediately. It took them about a week to figure out that the deposit was simply lost in the ether, never to be found again. If your bank's response to this situation is that it will "probably turn up" and to leave you stuck in the meantime, it's time to find a new bank.
Hope that all this worked out for you!
Credit union here just made son and my mom mad! He won an ebay bid for my mom over the MLK weekend. He let her know how much $$ would be needed for object and shipping, and she takes cash over to the branch office of this credit union about 15 minutes after they open on the 17th (closed Monday for the holiday). Yet, the main branch posts the ebay/paypal payment at 9.20 that same morning (17th) and dinged his acct for overdraft (for a darn nickel!) -- funny that the main office opens at least half hour before this branch! UGH!! Do credit unions/banks not post deposits before checks, etc??
If it's not there call back & INSIST to speak with a VP in charge of accounts...Do you have your slip to prove you made the deposit? You will need SOME proof if it does not show up, if it somehow has made it's way into someone elses account it could take 1-3 wks for them to track it down & put it back into your account.
You say you do your banking online, @ my bank I can go into my 'history' & it will show back to even 12 months (maybe more, I have never had to go any further than that).
You HAVE to be insistent with some reps the lazy ones are just that, LAZY...Be insistent that they need to figure it all out for you, after all it's your money not theirs!
totally frustrating! We live in a small town, & twice now our deposit was left at the branch....rather than put into the courier's package. So when the next morning rolled around....our $$ was NOT in our account, even tho' we had our deposit slip receipt. In both cases, the teller (2 different ones) had to leave unexpectedly & the ball was dropped by her co-workers/manager. NO one cleaned out her drawer.
OMG, I wanted to scream....& in the end, both times, we were given a "bonus" to our acct for the mishap. What good is a "checks/balances system"....when no one cares enough to help a co-worker with an emergency? :)
Like others have said, if you deposit it at a kiosk electronically, they will post it pending, sometimes taking it out to verify funds and then will put it back in your account once check clears.
If cash, not sure. If a direct deposit from your paycheck you need to talk to your employer (that has happened to my husband where payroll messed up, then tried to take the $ back, but just made a mess of it, but not the bank's issue).
I agree, it will show up today, but if it doesn't - call. :)
Are they doing updates by chance?
My sister works for the bank I use. Weirdo stuffs happens like that. I wouldn't worry. Check back in a few hours.
I KNOW how frustrating that is. I once was down to $14.00 and THAT freaked me out.
Do you have the time to go into a branch today and have a person IN FRONT OF YOU look into it? Make it clear that you need access to the money....it's not just the matter of *when* it will show up.
Yes. It has happened to me and I was in a similar situation. I asked if I made any purchases against the deposit if I would be able to use my card and if it would penalize me. They assured me it wouldn't and if it did, they would reverse any charges. SO ANNOYING! Like we have time to dink around with little things like this that should just be taken care of. Sorry you are dealing with this.
It depends on where you made the deposit. ATM deposits are always pending although they show up in your account. If there is a reason to reject the deposit they will pull it out.
Other than that they should stay in your account unless there is a reason to reverse the deposit. Say for instance you deposited a personal check and the bank verified funds on it and found it won't clear. They will reverse that deposit and mail the check back to you. It is to protect you from the fees you would incur when the check is returned.
Go to the bank and speak with someone for your peace of mind... :)
