I had a banking account in my maiden name before I was married. I never closed it out but I have not used it in 3yrs. Would the bank have closed it or would it still be open?

What can I do next?

I used to work at a bank, and after awhile they would go dormant. So basically you could not deposit or withdrawl from it until you re-activated it through a banker. Depends on the bank though.

I used to work for a major bank. Your account is still at your old bank, but inactive or dormant. Contact them and let them know what you'd like to do, close it out or keep it. They can change it to your married name, if you want them to, but will need verification in any event.

Depending on the bank and the amount you had in there in might be gone due to all these fees the banks are charging these days. All you can do it ask at this point.

It should be still open...They should have sent you interest every month and a paper to file your taxes....

Depends upon the bank...it should still be there...you need to go with photo ID proof of who you are...

If they closed the account, you can get the funds back - unrecovered funds or something like that - you can ask them.

GOOD LUCK!

depends on your bank and the account. This is how I closed several different bank accounts I have had (one when I moved and one when I got married) but I had a free checking account and let the balance sit at $0.

Depends on the bank... some banks close them after 1-2 years inactivity. All you can do is call the back and ask. If they did close it, they usually have to turn the money over ot unclaimed funds. When I went to a bank (where I also have my morgage) they told me to deposit $1.00 to reactivate an account I had there - it had been inactive for over a year and was about to be closed. I did and then got a litte in the mail that told me to call a 1-800 number if I did not know of the activity - since the account had been inactive for so lone. I now use the account to have my house payment taken out of... just deposit enough to cover the house payment & have it auto-paid, cause I really don't want it closed - just incase.

Call them up and ask them. Did you have a balance there?
