Baked Chicken drumsticks...frosted Flakes?

Ok, so I have a package of chicken drums and I want to make some crispy chicken without having to fry it. Most recipes call for corn flakes but I only have frosted flakes. I'm contemplating it and maybe adding some chile powder. What do you moms think? Anyone try something similar. I just don't want it to come out too sweet, otherwise the hubby won't like it. I have bread crumbs too but I don't think they'll come out as crispy. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I totally forgot about the potato chip idea, I've done it before but it's been a while. I have some sour cream and onion chips that sound like a tasty idea!

Definitely not on the Frosted Flakes. It would be WAY too sweet. Not to mention, I don't know how the frosted coating would bake up. I have heard of corn flakes, potato chips, and just plain bread crumbs. You don't have to use the name brand corn flakes, just use the store brand. Panko breadcrumbs work really well too.

I make baked chicken legs in the oven all the time. Dip in egg then in Italian breadcrumbs & put on a cookie sheet.
Personally, I wouldn't try the Frosted Flakes.

It would be too sweet... Corn is sweet all on its own but frosted flakes would be really sweet. I have used tortilla chips, works great and tastes great!!

For future reference try Zatarains Oven bake chicken. It is similar to shake n bake. You dip your chicken in egg then put it in a zip loc baggie with the mix. Shake it up. Put it on a greased pan or casserole dish and bake. You have delicious and very tasty "fried" chicken. I use it to make chicken nuggets and the entire family loves it.

Frosted flakes work if you also have COCONUT. Then you just do them up Caribbean style :) Or boil some OJ & balsamic down to a syrup to dip them in or drizzle over them. But personally, I prefer Caribbean.

I've used potato chips w/ great success! I choose the baked version for a little less fat.

Use tortilla chips! Most are already seasoned.

I haven't ever tried it but I do remember seeing a recipe using Captain Crunch (which I think is sweeter than frosted flakes???!?!)

Hope your potato chips baked drumsticks were good! I usually use bread crumbs on mine (when I do do this! not very often)

Hi, I've used frosted flakes a time or two 8 >). The trick to keeping down the sweetness is use a little spice. I've used a little hot sauce brushed on one side then rolled in the flakes.
YUM!
p.s. the easiest way to crush the cereal is to put them in a ziplock, get all the air out and use a rolling pin then you can drop the drum sticks in to coat them.

haven't used Frosted Flakes, but I have a great recipe from Cooking Light...Honey Pecan Crusted Chicken
salt & pepper chicken and set aside

mix together:
1/4 C. honey
2T. dijon mustard
3/4 tsp. paprika
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
dip chicken in honey mixture

combine:
1 1/4 C finely crushed corn flakes
1/2C finely chopped pecans
Dip honeyed chicken in corn flake mix and place in baking dish coated with cooking spray. Lightly spray chicked with cooking spray and bake at 400 for 40 min or until done.

This recipe is for 4 (6 oz) chicken breasts. You may need to adjust the baking time for drumsticks.
