Hello Moms,
My 16 month old has a rash on her neck going up into her scalp alittle. It isn't anywhere else..like her chest or back. She sweats alot, could that have caused it. Of course she itches but it hasn't spread should I be worried.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone's advice. I have used corn starch and also cetaphil over the counter. It has cleared it up. I also have been keeping the area dry because she does sweat alot and it has helped. I just want to thank everyone because I really was worried but if it comes back and doesn't go away then I will bring her to the pediatrician. Thanks again everyone

Hi Sifi,

It is so scary when we see a rash. What color is the rash? Is it red and angry looking? (possibly prickly heat), Red and oozing? Was she exposed to the outdoors? (could be poison ivy...)...Red and bumpy?Kind of dry/sandy feeling? (could be eczema)...Have you changed soap? Washed clothes in something new? (could be reaction to soap). Take her to the drs. At the very least they can tell you that it is not contagious. Maybe they can give you a cream...I got one for DS'eczema. Tell us what happens! Good luck! {{HUGS}} we have been there...she will be fine!

No dont be worried. And yes her sweating alot will cause the rash. My son went through this. Go to the store and buy baby powder with corn starch. that will do the trick

It seems like it could be a heat rash. You can try some calamine lotion or talk to the pediatrician.

Hi S.

It could be sesonal allergies. My son had the same problem and it was because of his allergies. We switched his allergy medicine and that fixed the problem. No more rash on the neck or itchy head.

You may want to ask your daughter's pediatrician.

I dont want to alarmed you but I think if this does not go away with over the counter cream then you must see the doctor because you don't want for this to get worst or be an excema that may spread up to the hair. I have seing bad cases and beleive you dont want to deal with this. If this is taken care of early the better it is.
good luck

Hi S.

I have 3 boys and they used to get the same kind of rash. What I did was I used to apply diaper rash cream, I kept the area very dry and after bath I used to put baby powder for sensetive skin on the affected area. After doing that for a few days the rash went away. Try doing that and see what happens. You also have to keep her from scratching the area. The powder keeps the itch from driving her and you crazy. Don't use wipes or when you bath her don't wash the area with soap because that just iritates the area more. Just wipe the area with a warm cloth and apply the powder. Before she goes to sleep put the cream on her so she can sleep calm. Let me know if it works.

I believe that it could be prickly heat and its caused by heat and sweat exposure. Try using diaper rash cream or baby powder to keep his skin from perspiring too much and a cool bath can always do the trick. But take her to the doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope this is what he had and that it isnt anything else and I hope my advice is usefull to you.

Hi- My 10 month old baby girl developed that same rash around the same time I started using carters footed flannel sleepers. I did not put two and two together until I looked indide the sleeper and realized that my daughter was having an allergic reation to the material that the size is inprinted on with. It is some type of latex? Well her father has the same allergy as well. I cut out the size section of her sleeper and the rash went away. Any Carter clothes that have that sizing imprint, cause the rash to re-appear unless I use a onesie.

Hello S.,

My son gets a red rash in the crease of his neck and behind his neck also. I have taken him to the pediatrician over this and they said it is due to moisture in the creases. They suggested that I apply cortisone ointment (not the cream) 2x a day. I do this and it is gone almost immediately. I hope this helps!

Yes it could be from sweat. My daughter would get a rash on her neck when she was little from sweat, saliva, formula, basically liquids that would happen to run down her neck and maybe stay in the creases. If you keep the area dry it should clear up soon.

my now 3 year old and my 5 month old always get those. those are because of all the moisture(the milk, saliva, sweat and so on) try washing the area with Aveeno for sensitive skin and then putting some a&d ointment. if should repel the water and moisture. do not use baby powder, my daughters' pediatrician told me that baby powder retains the moisture. good luck and if it gets worse or you are really concerned, go to the doctor. better safe than sorry.

It could also be prickly heat which is caused by clogged sweat pours and often shows on the chest, back, neck and face area. Its very common esecially in the warmer weather, but you may want to check with the doctor to be on the safe side.

S.,
Please have your daughter checked for Lyme disease if the rash doesn't go away soon and if you've spent anytime outdoors in the grass. I know from experience, we just had our girl treated for it and she's doing fine.
