Bad breath can have different causes. Poor dental care, tonsil stones, reflux, sinus issues.... I'd take kiddo to the doctor to determine what you're dealing with so you can pinpoint and treat the issue instead of guessing.

Brush the 3 year olds teeth twice per day.
If the breath is still bad--is ask your pediatrician about it.

Welcome to mamapedia.

Your title is incorrect. It should be "bad breath in 3 year old" not bad birth. People will think you had many complications in your child birth.

Does your 3 year old brush his/her teeth? Maybe YOU should still be doing it for him/her. Using products like mouth wash might help. However, proper oral hygiene is paramount to a healthy life.

Take your child to a pediatric dentist. Find out if there are problems with decay or salivary glands.

You need to make sure your child is drinking plenty of water and brushing their teeth after every meal.

Bad birth???

Have you taken your child to a pediatric dentist for routine dental care?? This should be routine around age 2. What did Dr say?

Are you brushing and rinsing his/her mouth? You should have this habit in place way before now.

Routine dental care should be in full force now with daily brushing, etc and checks at the dentist each 6 months.

If nothing is out of sorts with teeth, ask your pedi to find out if there is an underlying reason other than not properly caring for teeth daily.

Here is an infamous story from my family, and my sister milks this story to this day.

When my sister was 4, she had bad breath for so long, my mom finally took her to the doctor for it. She thought she maybe had a sinus infection or something at this point, the wierd breath smell was just not going away. Doctor took one look up her nose, got his tweezers, and pulled out a small piece of sponge that my sister had stuck up her nose MONTHS before. Bad breath cured.

We knew my sister had stuck the sponge up her nose (one of those "fun" bath capsules where they spring to life in the water and make little shapes), my mom just thought she had gotten it all out at the time. She had totally forgotten about it by the time the "breath problem" became an issue.

Just saying... your daughter is three...you can't seem to get rid of the breath problem... how long has it been? Maybe get it looked into.

My kids had bad breath for a couple of reasons - one had a sinus issue (saw ENT) and one had lactose intolerance - before we figured it out, he had smelly breath.

When my daughter had acid reflux, she had a funny smell to her breath also.

If it's not teeth (check that first) just run it past your doctor. Ours just smelled it and knew what the problem was in each case - they have different odors.

Good luck!

My ped sent us to an ENT who removed a tissue from my DD's nose, must have been there for a long time. Odor went away.

Bad breath can be due to a sinus infection, tonsils issues, stomach/reflux issues, teeth, etc - a lot of things can cause it.
A doctor might be able to help you figure out the cause and what to do to treat it.

You should take your 3 year old to the dentist or doctor, they can help you.

Also fix your subject. Bad birth and bad breath are two completely different things.

I thought your post said bad birth....typo I guess

Anyway, first make sure they are brushing whatever teeth they have...second, help them brush their tongue, especially in the back. That is where most of the bad breath comes from.

Google tonsil stones. S/he might have those. My 3 year old did, and that's what caused her bad breath.

Let them chew on a tooth brush. Brush their teeth with training tooth paste, they shouldn't use kids toothpaste yet unless they know they're not supposed to swallow it.

Take kiddo to pediatric dentist and get them a check up. They will also clean kiddo's teeth and let you know if they have cavities which also cause bad breath.
