Has anyone seen bad behavior side effect to Advair with their children? We took Cingulair one time and had this same horrible behavior "reaction". What else could we use to help keep his asthma under control?

thanks!

Ask your pediatrician about Xopenex. I was on albuterol for a long time as a child and always had side effects but once they switched me to xopenex I never had a problem again. It is worth looking in to.

i'm pretty sure both contain a steroid, and it's the steroid that is know for causing the lovely behavior... unfortunately, most asthmatics need the steroid.

My daughter has been on Advair since she was 5 (now 10). Have not seen any side effects. Her symptoms are worse during the fall and spring. About two years ago, we did the NAET treatment with a local chiropractor, I have been able to take her off Advair from May until end of August. Naet is a homeopathic treatment which treats for allergens. Have done with two of my daughters and since treatment their symptoms have lessened dramatically. This last fall (1st time since I can remember) she did not miss any activities due to her asthma. I am not saying that NAET will make everything go away, we have had to use less medication since having treatment. I used Jennifer Polen in Denton (Dehart Chiropractic). Really it is a treatment that you are skeptical about until you actually see it performed.

We also used Cingulair, and did not see that this really helped with her symptoms. Do you use a nose spray? We recently started using Astelin, also less symptoms since using this. When you using any nasal spray, always make sure you start with a nasal wash, so that the meds can adhere to nasal cavities. Good luck and hope this helps.

My son had been on singular from the age of 1-4. I opted to take him off after all the news reports. He also had some behavioral issues. We started him on advair about 6 months ago and I haven't seen any issues so far! Plus, it has been GREAT for his asthma. No breathing treatments since. He is 6 1/2 now. But every kid is different, so if you think he is having a side effect from it I would definitely take him off and talk to your doctor about using something else.

Although I have no advice to offer, I wanted to send a thank you for bringing this topic to my attention. My son hasn't had behavioral side effects from these medications, but your post has enlightened me on other adverse effects of both Advair and Singulair. It's frightening. Again, thank you for your original post, and thank you to the others who have shared information on these drugs.

My kids never toook Advair. However, we did see a behavior change in our child when on Sigulair. We decided to discontinue and tried to minimize her exposure to allergies. We brought it up to our ENT and he said that he has heard the same thing from other parents. However, our second had severe ear trouble; her eardrums burst 4 times before she was 9 months. We did the singlair because we felt that she was at more risk if we didn't give it to her. However, we saw no change; ended up having ear tubes. So glad we did it; no ear trouble since and no medicine! Good luck!
