Did he fall on his tailbone? I fell on mine in Junior high school and it hurt on and off for over a year. I probably had a small fracture or something. The tailbone does take a long time to heal. Does it hurt a lot or a little?
My son will be 9 in two months. He is active in sports, thats why at first I though maybe he pulled someting. It's been almost a year that he has complained of lower back pain (he says on his tail bone). A few months after him saying it hurts I took him to the doctor. They did xrays and bloodwork. Everything turned out fine. Doctor said just give him Motrin. This was several months ago. He has started to say his back is hurting again. Anyone have any ideas or has experienced this before?

find a good physical therapist or chiropractor to teach him how to stretch that area well. And do exercises.
He is too young to have chronic back pain. Maybe the SI joint ? are his legs the same length ?
have him take a nice long warm bath, then do the stretches. also find a massage therapist that is familiar with back pain.
good luck.
I live with chronic back pain for 2 yrs, and it breaks my heart to think of a 9 yr old with back pain.
does it come and go, or is it constant ?
does activity make it worse ?
I would take him to a chiropractor or sports med doc. Dislocated tailbone is frequently misdiagnosed and that could be the problem.
H.,
Have him try some stretches for his Sciatica..Mine does this every once in a while and it feels like, well it is your tail bone. I went to a chiropractor for it, and he adjusted me, but it still was hurting. He said I just needed to do these stretches every day and make sure to do both legs. It is very simple, have him sit on a chair that his legs are parallel to the ground, then have him put his right ankle on he left knee, and lean forward until it is quite tender. hold it there until it doesn't hurt very much at all, probably like one to five mins. Then repeat on the other side. Have him do this every day for a week and then on the days that it bothers him and a few days following. This stretch can also be done sitting on the floor with your knees bent and feet on the ground, then lift one ankle and put it on the opposite knee. Done on the floor you can get it to stretch a little bit more then sitting in a chair.
Either way, this should help tremendously.
Good luck,
E.

HI H.,
Is is backpack getting heavier these days? The older they get usually means they are carrying more books home to do homework with. Go to the link below to inform yourself if his backpack is too heavy for his weight. Does he wear both straps around his shoulders and is that area padded well?
