It does seem to be going around this year. As long as he is looking healthy after and not getting all run down, I would wait a bit.
My 6 year old son seems to have had 2 stomach viruses in less than a month. Both times, he never had any vomitting or fever, only diarrhea and stomach cramps. Should I consider taking him to the doctor or wait? Does this seem like it's diet related? Thank you for your help.
Thank you for all your suggestions. It turned out to be just that, back to back stomach bugs. He's doing much better now, back to being himself. Thank you again for all you help.

Your son could have had two stomach viruses, as there seem to be a lot of bugs going around. But I think you are wise to question his diet. If the latest stomach issue seems to be under control, I would hold off on calling the doctor and start keeping a daily food diary that includes any physical symptoms he may experience. If the problem continues I would then contact his doctor and take the diary along.
Call you Doctor and see what he says over the phone, he may tell you it's fine to wait, or he may want to do a stool culture. Good luck
My son's school has been hit with about 4 rounds of this stomach virus over the last 6-8 weeks. It very well could be a virus. I would wait and see because there are so many strains of this stomach virus and he could have had it twice. Also something to consider is this...a very high percentage of stomach ailments are actually forms of food poisoning. Most food related illnesses are mild in nature and can show up as cramping and diarrhea.
could be diet related. There is something called Celiac's disease. Has you son ever been tested? It's when you eat products with gluten and your immune system responds by damaging the small intestine causing cramping and stomach aches.
Probiotics are great for stomach issues. Any good drugstore/ health food store should carry them especially for kids. Plain yogurt will help too - I make up a 'milkshake' with plain yogurt and a banana (a bit of honey for sweetener) and let him sip at that for diarrhea.
Hope you figure out the cause and that he feels fine for the holiday season.

Hi,
My understanding is that 80% of diarrhea-issues are from food-contamination, not the flu. Especially if there are no other symptoms, I would think about what/where your son is eating.
Hey H.,
It sounds like it could be a food allergy. My son is allergic to soy and dairy. If he gets too much soy, he gets diarrhea. It took us a while to figure it out because we knew about the diary allergy, so our alternative at the time was soy. Good luck. I give him lots of bananas and acidophillus (sp?) when he gets diarrhea. It helps. He also gets extra oatmeal too.
