Back Pain Due to an Epidural

Hi Ladies,
I had my son four weeks ago. I had an epidural with him and since then I will get a sharp pain from the middle of my back to the bottom, just above my butt but it occurs only on the right side. The pain happens if I sit a certain way, stand too long, bend a certain way, etc. I did not have an epidural with my daughter two years ago so I am just wondering if this is common and if so is it permanent? I have my six week follow up with my doctor on the 28th and plan to address the issue then but I was just wanting to ask the wisdom of other moms.

Thanks

What can I do next?

After my second c-section, I experienced intermediate pain at the injection site, especially after a lot of lifting or activity, or if sitting in an uncomfortable position. I would say it was up to a year before I did not notice it any more, but it didn't happen that often.

I had severe back pain after my second c-section. (I didn't want either c-section, and I have to throw that in even though it has nothing to do with this.) After six weeks, it still hurt like hell. I limped around, feeling quite bitter, and it was worse than the pain of the actual c-section. Anyway, the doctor said that it sounded like nerve damage caused by the spinal. Nerves can regenerate and heal but may take time. It seemed like the pain began to subside shortly after my six week visit (finally). Seeing a chiropractor can definatley help, too.

I have no information about this, I am sorry, but I do think you should try to get in to see your doctor sooner than the 28th. Why wait, if you can get in sooner? You may have to tell the receptionist your issue, have her run it by the doctor, and then see if they think they should fit you it.....assuming their are no appointments available.

I had a similar pain after my epidural. My daughter is 14 weeks. I think it lasted for about 8 weeks after birth. Some of it was just my back readjusting to not being pregnant. I mentioned it to my doctor, who said it was normal. But if the pain persists more than 3 mos, see my primary doctor. Anyway, the pain is now gone. It seemed to get better as I got more active and returned to work.
Hope this helps!

When i had my daughter and i also had the epidural. I didnt have the back pain. but if i would be on my right knee a certain way i would get this sharp pain that would shoot up my leg. I think this lasted for about the whole 6 weeks and then just stopped and never had a problem with it again. If you are still having it by the time your 6 weeks check up i would ask the doctor because mine went away before then so i didnt ask.

L.,
I had terrible back pain from the epidural. It took lots of strenghtening exercises for it to get better. A chiropractor also did a myofacial release on the scar tissue.

I had the same thing happen to me with an epidural. It took nearly 3 months for it to go away, but I'm fine now.

It might be the epidural, but I have that exact same pain and it is due to a compressed disc. Consider checking with a chiropractor (and I am not one of those people who suggests a chiropractor for everything, I promise).

I had epidurals with both my pregnancies and both were c-sections. One emergency and the other planned.
I did NOT have, subsequent back pain.

But you should mention it to your Doctor.

Births... can really tweak a woman's body... maybe it is just a pinched nerve and may not be related to the Epidural.

I have heard this is somewhat common in second epidurals. Though the pain usually fades, definitely bring it up with your Dr.
