I am looking for a place to hold a baby shower for my daughter who lives in Long Beach, CA. We are expecting approx. 50 guests. Our budget is $250.00. We will decorate, bring our own food, set up and clean up. Please help. We have the date set for April 13, 2013, but have not sent out invitations yet. Still trying to find out where we are going to have the shower.

What can I do next?

Try googling the county or city and see if they have a recreation center. They often have rooms for rent that are reasonable, at least here in Virginia they do.

Church halls or other local private clubs (not high end).

http://www.longbeach.gov/park/reservations/reservations.asp - this is to use a city rec center or room, they seem expensive to me when you add the fees up.

Does she have any friends or relatives in Long Beach with access to a community center/rec room in an apartment or condo community? (We've done this a few times.) They will charge a deposit and possibly a fee. Or someone who has a church with a room they might rent out? Or a park in the city you can use?

One last thought would be the American Legion who will rent their halls for receptions or parties, not sure about baby showers.

Think since you do not have a place yet, you might want to change date of shower. That is only three 1/2 weeks away. By the time you find a place, and mail out invites it will be end of month. April tends to be the beginning of busy times for, folks. I would try a community center, Elks Club, American Legion Hall. All these charge a fee and and sometimes can be a couple of hundred dollars. How about someone's home/backyard.

A lot of communities have clubhouses that can be rented out for pretty low fees. See if any of the bridesmaids or closest friends live somewhere with an association clubhouse.

Our community center rents rooms. We are renting one for my son's birthday party and it is $10/hr. Good Luck!!

I don't know about your town, but for us, we have several options: fire department, library, park, church - they all have very nice halls to rent for a very reasonable fee. And they all have kitchenettes and restrooms. You might check them out in your town!!

Good luck!!

Is there a local park? Call the rec dept and see if you can have a short even there.
